Trapped nerve? Health anxiety

I had pain in my neck and shoulder for a couple of weeks up until recently. I put it down to WFH.

The pain has eased a lot. Almost non existent apart from getting comfortable in bed.

However, I am now experiencing frequent pins and needles in my arm. Even just sat with arm bent on my knee typing this. Is this likely to be related even with little pain?

I'm generally quite anxious and have been prescribed propanolol in the past for worrying about my health, so I don't want to approach my doctor if this is most likely related to the sore neck and shoulder.

Thank you.

It could well be a trapped nerve. You need to treat it with a NSAID rather than paracetamol. This should take the swelling down and allow the nerve to free itself. I.e. Not a doctor but I'm regularly troubled by them

I have a minor problem with my elbow that gives me pins and needles in my fingers. If you keep the elbow straight does the pain recede. That's the position putting least pressure on the nerve, I find.

Thank you both!

So I need an NSAID even although I'm not really in any pain anymore?

Yes, when my arm is straight I don't think I really get the tingles. Will monitor that more though.

I had similar, pain but pins and needles in my arms, hands and soles of feet. I went to my GP, they referred me to a spinal unit who ordered nerve conduction tests and an MRI. I had two “bulging” discs in my neck causing the problem - no nerve involvement. It settled with a cause of physio and also I was started on some meds for migraines which manages the pain.

It’s definitely worth discussing with your GP.

When I had a slipped disc in my neck I went onto experience severe referred pain in my arm along with pins and needles. Sounds like a nerve or disc related pain, no need to worry I’m sure Flowers

Thank you again for the latest replies.

@SurreyHillsGirl when you say "went on to", had the pain gone from your neck by the time the pins and needles started?

The pain really isn't an issue as it's barely there now.

Sorry, I have only now seen this. I had a slipped disc for around a year with a lot of neck pain, this then transferred to my arm, it started as pins and needles and numbness and then turned into full on excruciating pain. The doctor told me it was referred pain from my slipped disc.

The pain was still in my neck when this happened but not as bad a when I first slipped the disk.
