Is deep frying the best or are any of thease modern airfryers worth a go?

Freshly cut potatoes deep fried in cold oil til crispy is the best imo, and my dh agrees. Haven't tried the airfryers, but I would love to.

Cut potatoes, par boil for 5-10 mins then onto a baking tray with a drizzle of hot oil. Put in the oven and cook for 20-30 mins. Healthier than deep fried, tastier than shop bought oven chips.

I bought an air fryer at the start of lockdown, it’s been brilliant. Far nicer than oven chips. Not quite as good as a chippy!

I love my air fryer. If we're being lazy we sometimes buy McCain gastro chips and do them in there too, much nicer than in the oven

EpilepsyMum4 · 22/06/2020 19:35

Airfryer for sure

JuniorMumto1 · 22/06/2020 19:37

Slowly getting the hang of my air fryer. Definitely not as good as deep fried but better than oven chips!

Montsti · 22/06/2020 19:40

I have to say that I was a bit dubious about the airfryer but it’s amazing!
The chips and potato wedges are delicious amongst many other food! We also reheat leftover roast potatoes etc.. in there and they taste so much better than in the oven or microwave..

Dk20 · 22/06/2020 20:13

We love the air fryer too.
If in a rush we dont even peel the potatoes, just chop them and throw them in with a spray of low fat oil. No need to even par-boil.

Dicotyledon · 22/06/2020 20:22

Homemade oven as above. Childhood best friend lost his family to a chip pan fire on xmas eve, so I would never buy one.

QueenofLouisiana · 22/06/2020 20:30

Total actifry converts here. Great chips, easy-peasy and much lower in fat.

Aga chips.

One cal spray.

SkelingtonArgument · 22/06/2020 20:43

Proper chip pan. Chips lowered in when the fat is hot. Basket lifted when they are nearly done, left for a couple of minutes then plunged back in to go crispy.
Drain onto kitchen towel and sprinkle with salt

So you have the chips in while the oil heats? 🤔

So sorry x
PickAChew · 22/06/2020 20:51

We use an actifry but definitely add more than the recommended smidgin of oil.

bluevioletcrimsonsky · 22/06/2020 21:00

Cobblers, yes, I saw this on somewhere introduced as best homemade chips ever, and tried it. Don't boil the potato. Just put the cut potatoes in cold oil and turn the heat on. By the time the potatoes are golden brown, it's cooked to perfection. Takes ages, so I don't do it often, but well worth it.

MashedSpud · 22/06/2020 21:04

Deep fried.

I have them as a very rare treat with buttered butties.

silentpool · 22/06/2020 21:05

Par boil then airfryer.

CobblersPose · 22/06/2020 21:05

Blue thanks! Never seen it done that way I will be trying asap!
