School Uniforms and Covid 19

I can't do a click link on my phone, but an article in the Mirror mentioned that school blazers and ties may be banned from September, as the Department of Education recommends fresh clothes be worn every day.

Has this already happened, for secondary students who are currently in school?

Although it makes sense to wear fresh clothes every day, I can't help but wonder what happens in cooler weather? For my oldest, she generally wears her blazer instead of a coat, because there's nowhere to put a coat during the day.

I'm assuming they'll still be dragging their book bags around with them every day, collecting germs on them anyway.

So I guess what I'm asking is do you think a ban on ties and blazers will happen, and is it a good or bad thing?

DD went in today in full blazer and tie.

She owns three ties, two blazers, 5 shirts and three skirts, as standard and I have a washing machine with a fast cycle and a tumble dryer and can afford to stick the heating on to get things dry on the radiator if necessary.

I appreciate we're lucky, and not everybody can afford all that...but surely crappy nylon school clothes are reasonably easy to wash and dry quickly. Much more so than sweatshirts etc.

Primary school have gone back in own clothes due to school requesting a new set every day.

Full blazers and ties for DS, currently ok as he’s I one day in four. When he’s in every day tgst will be a lot more difficult.

I'm hoping that when ds goes in for a couple days in a couple of days that it's own clothes as nothing currently fits!

Duckchick · 22/06/2020 21:23

Primary school and as previous posters back in own clothes but requesting clean clothes every day. We wouldn't have enough school trousers to do clean each day.

A neighbouring primary school has gone back in uniform and is requesting clean every day but is allowing mixing and matching of summer and winter uniform.

CallarMorvern · 22/06/2020 22:34

Our school had said no uniform until September, but a few parents complained. So the school backtracked, unfortunately some of us had already got rid of the old grown out of stuff, so had to buy new. I was more than a bit pissed off and really could have done without the expense. And yes, they have to wear blazers and ties, blazers are kept on all the time.

Sewrainbow · 22/06/2020 22:43

Ours requested uniform but said no need to buy new if bits outgrown (yr 6).

No stipulation on clean every day and it didn't occur to me to do that. Mine always have clean shirt and underwear, but if visibly clean trousers will do 2 days or so.

Ds yr 10 is in , in school uniform although we dont have blazers kist jumpers, shirts and tie
But only in one day and school have advised they shower and change once home and uniform is washed

6 th form used to be BC suit and tie for boys and business attire for girls inc jacket, now no jackets or ties and if need be wear any clothes as clean clothes more important than what they look like.

Her female A level teacher today was in jeans, hot day in London so warm choice I thought.

Woeismethischristmas · 22/06/2020 23:26

Our primary is saying own clothes, clean every day, clothes th hat they can also do pe in so I assume joggers or leggings etc.

Sarahplane · 22/06/2020 23:27

My dds school is not wearing any uniform when they go back and if pupils wish to wear uniform (can't see that happening somehow) then ties are banned. I'm not complaining but not sure the logic of banning uniform when they go back as they're only going in one or two days a week at most so surely everyone has at t least two sets of uniform anyway (one to wear, one on to wash) as noone could wear the same all week normally apart from ties. (They don't wear blazers anyway)
