What farewell present for 13-year-old boy returning to the US?

DS has a good friend returning to the US after two years in the UK. He would love to give him a goodbye present to remind him of his time here, but we are struggling to come up with any ideas.

Mumsnetters have come up trumps when I have asked for present help before, so I'm relying on you all... Smile

What kind of budget op and age of friend?

MissSmila · 22/06/2020 17:02

Friend is 13, and the budget is not huge - £20-30 max, although for the absolutely perfect present I might stretch it.

British sweets. US chocolate is rubbish

How about a photo in frame of him and your son or if you have several photos into a photo book, they currently have 40% off on photobox

cinders15 · 22/06/2020 17:54

Fifa football or a rugby ball?

MissSmila · 22/06/2020 18:11

He loves sports so good call on balls. Good thought about the the photo - I'll probably do that but feel like something else is needed too.

My 14 year old boy loved getting any Man City related stuff from the UK - he has a T-shirt and a ball.

My American kids also love to receive Penguins, orange Clubs, Flakes, Star Bars.

U.K. Monopoly ?

Or if you are in London then the London Game?

MissSmila · 23/06/2020 09:47

I like the Monopoly idea as they are big game players. Are there any other games that differ between UK and US versions?

Any other ideas?

Has your son and pal been to anywhere they really liked , can you get a key ring / fridge magnet from there as a small gift along side something more substantial.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 25/06/2020 22:29

Mine love The Great Game of Britain..

Board game where you take trains to different places. Mine are 14-28 btw, 5 of them. All still quite like a game.

AlCalavicci · 25/06/2020 22:35

I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing appeal to a young lad but things like Marmite proper tea bags English chocolates and sweets.

Leeds2 · 25/06/2020 22:36

Football or rugby shirt for England/Scotland/Wales depending on where you live. Or a shirt of your local club team.
If you like the Monopoly idea, I know they do them for all major cities now. I have seen Brighton, Leeds, Manchester etc so I am sure there will be one of your nearest city.
Tuck box of British sweets, chocolate etc.
Sweatshirt from your local university. I think US students tend to were these more than their British counterparts!
A model of whatever car his parents drive over here.

Deanetta · 25/06/2020 22:37

Actually yes, the great game of Britain or the London Game would be good.

MissSmila · 26/06/2020 13:45

These are fab ideas - thank you! Thinking of going for the board games with English chocolate on the side, but sports shirts still in the running.

As a fairly cheap idea, can you get an empty Perspex key ring and put a picture of them together on one side and a printed (from google?) map of the local area on the other side
