Anyone using a UV Steriliser

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has used or looked at buying a UV steriliser? I am due with my first baby soon and it has been a very rapid change in how we live over the last few months. The thought of a baby (of whom will place everything and anything in its mouth) I'm more so thinking of getting one. Just not sure if I'm being over the top?!?
Please share thoughts?!
Thanks.

My friend has one. She loves it.
I use a Milton steraliser and I love it.
What I didn't like was an electric steam one. If I had another child I'd consider the UV but I am really happy with the Milton.

Why would it be over the top to get a UV one? What are you planning to steralise above bottles and feeding equipment before 6 months?

The UV one is for sterilising toys, keys, bedding, mats, just about everything. It's separate from the feeding bottles etc. You can use this to ensure light switches and door handles are clean and sterilised.

I'm guessing this is very new in the market and with COVID I thought it would be handy?

I think that you might be going rather OTT with the idea of trying to sterilise everything. If you do that, your baby won't build up an immune system and that will lead to lots of problems later.

Sounds a tad OTT. You can't steralise everything. Stick to bottles and toys. Wash on a 60 if your concerned re bedding etc. Use bleach for door handles etc but realistically you need to introduce germs to your baby to build their immune system.

I only actually wash toys with hot soapy water.

UV sterilisers can work very well, but the only one I would consider is one in a box with a door that shuts tight. The form of UV light that is effective also causes skin and retinal cancer, so the wand things are risky to use in the house = or if they say they are safe to use, they wont sterilise anything.
I have a small box sterliser for my phone and a Larger one for ipads and bigger bits. But I am high risk for covid.

Personally I'd save the money for something else & stick with a Milton steriliser for bottle etc other brands available a completely sterile environment can do more harm than good.

Your baby needs exposure to germs and dirt and whatever else these things are supposed to kill - the only way the immune system develops is if it has something to fight.

thank you all for the advice, i'll be saving the money :)
