Anyone around for a handhold? Awake since 2.30 with palpitations.

Woke up at 2.30 with palpitations (ectopic beats I think) every few minutes.

Think they've been brought on by having a few glasses of wine last night. Am currently incredibly stressed as waiting for investigations into some symptoms/blood test results that may indicate ovarian cancer - hence the glasses of wine. Think I'm going tee total from now on.

Eugh, they're horrid - really scary, bloody husband snoring next to me doesn't help either.

I am here. I have an irregular heartbeat so I know what it is like. It sounds a bit dramatic but sticking your face in cold water for a few seconds can reset your heart beat. Inwas told this by my cardiologist and it works. Its the shock that does it. Is your heart racing? Or just irregular?

Toilenstripes · 22/06/2020 05:22

I’m so sorry OP. The palpitations sound like stress. Also, are you menopausal? Shifting hormones can cause them as well. When will you get the test results?

It's light out now so you could go sit outside if that's calming for you.

Thanks for the tip outnumbered - I've tried the coughing thing to try to sort it but not cold water, will give it a go.

It's the missed beat followed by a thud kind of irregularity.

I might be peri menopausal Toilen - I'm 42, cycles have shortened to 25 days too which might indicate it (although also one of the reasons I'm being investigated). Scan is a week on Monday and then a few more days for results I guess.

Might do that ouch, have the window open and listening to the birds, the pigeons are especially calming.

Am trying to keep as quiet as possible - got one of DD's friends in the spare room, not ideal but she's having some issues at home/stepdad and was scared to go back home so couldn't say no (must contact the school tomorrow).

Another "odd" sounding thing to try is gargling for 30 seconds. Like the cold water it's meant to help give your vagus nerve a bit of a kick up the bum and help reset things. Hope you are ok.

chatterbugmegastar · 22/06/2020 05:43

Ectopics are horrible aren't they? I find mine are worse when I'm dehydrated

Let us know how your investigations go
Thanks

They really are chatter and thanks for the flowers. I know that alcohol can bring them on (not that I drink lots/often) - especially when I'm feeling particularly anxious - so I'm my own worst enemy really, but I just wanted to relax/try to forget about things for a few hours.

It does sound a little odd Discontented - but I'm willing to try anything!

Still got them, OP? If so, try taking a big breath, then bearing diwn into your lower lower body. As you puah hold the breath for as long as possible. Then a big breath. It really works.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 22/06/2020 06:01

Push.

Vinosaurus · 22/06/2020 06:09

I haven't had one for about 20 minutes - touch wood - but if they do come back again I'll try that (along with the water splashing and gargling!).

My brain has now stopped panicking about the palpitations so much and is returning to its default of panicking about the potential diagnosis instead. Oh joy.
