Medical question: DH's skin is cold (even goose bumpy) but he's really sweating ...

  • Last sat he started with D&V. Imodium didn't touch it.
  • He rang GP on Tuesday and they said let it run it's course but prescribed an over the counter tablet to treat the cramping and wind.
  • On Thursday the D&V stopped and Friday he began to eat again.
  • Yesterday he was eating small portions.
  • Today he is still eating small portions (appatite very low) - But he has this cold goose-bumpy skin, pale face and loads of sweating going on! Confused

I've googled but all i can get is references to sepsis and heart attacks. He's otherwise physically fit (builder) He's meant to be going back to work tomorrow but i'm a bit concerned tbh.

Can anyone shed any light? TIA

If his temp is 36.5 hes not septic. What are you using to take his temp? Is it reliable?

Have you given him some dioralyte? Rather than just tea something properly rehydrating

FelicityPike · 21/06/2020 17:23

Absolutely get medical help here.

HappyHammy · 21/06/2020 17:24

you can have cold sepsis, don't rely on temperature to diagnose what might be going on. it could be one of many things which is why it would be much better to seek expert real life medical help

I tihnk you do need to get a proper examination done by a doctor

JingsMahBucket · 21/06/2020 17:31

Go to the hospital!

Laiste · 21/06/2020 17:34

I've talked to him seriously. ''I'm bloody fine woman. Nothing hurts'' is what i'm getting. He's having a shower. When he gets out i'll show him this thread, and talk again.

I've taken his temp again. 36.0. It's the one i use for DD (6) quite often so i know it works. He hasn't had any med at all today. Or since yesterday lunchtime.

If he totally refuses to ring 111 i'll do it.

My mum had sepsis 2 years ago and nearly died from it.

Bloody hell OP it's a worry when they give you the "I'm fine" thing.

My DS is 15, he went from "I'm fine Mum (for god sake!)" to being pumped full of fluid and antibiotics in HDU 30 minutes later from sepsis about 8 weeks ago.

Keep a very close eye.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 21/06/2020 17:48

If you can’t manhandle him to a&e at least call 111 or your OOH GP service and get someone to speak to him or see him.

vanillandhoney · 21/06/2020 17:48

He needs medical treatment. Get him to A&E.

Lockdownlooks · 21/06/2020 17:55

OP at least phone 111. Then it’s a professional telling your OH what to do rather than random people on MN or a relative (you) so he might listen.

TenShortStories · 21/06/2020 17:57

If he's convinced he's fine that makes it easier for him to go to a&e without feeling embarrassed - "I'm so sorry to waste your time, my wife is really worried I've got sepsis because of xyz and made me come down here".

Sell it to him that way, that you'll take all the flack for overreacting from annoyed doctors (there won't actually be any) but can he please humour you.

endofthelinefinally · 21/06/2020 17:59

Agree with everyone saying A&E.
Cold, clammy and pale is not good.
They aren't busy atm so chances are he will get seen quickly.

ButterflyWitch · 21/06/2020 17:59

OP I've no idea if you need to worry or not, the only way you'll know is by phoning 111 and getting actual real life medical input. Get it over and done with and get your answer! Hope he's ok

Serena1977 · 21/06/2020 18:01

A temperature going down is as dangerous as a temp going up.

Something is not right therefore you need to consult a medical professional.

SonjaMorgan · 21/06/2020 18:10

Low temperature and sweating is a sign of diabetes and thyroid issues. I am sure there are other potential conditions. It is something I would want checked.

SeaToSki · 21/06/2020 18:12

Ask him to take a really deep breath and if there is any tightness or feeling not quite like normal

Does he have any neck ache or stiffness

Does the upper chest and arms feel normal, or maybe like he has pulled a muscle

Does he have a rash anywhere on his body - make him strip off and you check him

Have him sit down and breath normally, count the number of breaths he takes in 30 seconds, then double it. It should be between 12 and 20

If he has any of the symptoms I have asked about, or his breathing is outside the normal, call 111 right away and if you cant speak to someone in the next hour, seriously consider going to A and E.

If he doesnt have any of the other symptoms, you must still keep a very close eye on him, and I might still call 111 for advice

JinglingHellsBells · 21/06/2020 18:20

I'd phone your GPs surgery and see what they have as an out of hours service.

111 is manned by non-medics. They use a computer program, type in symptoms and come up with a possible diagnosis. I'd not rely on it at all.

Your other option is 999 and get paramedics out.

I don't see how anyone can say 'sepsis' when he has gone from a severe tummy bug to feeling ok but now sweating.

I think you should ask for medical help but I'd avoid 111 (at one stage they used 16 yr olds on the call centre and not sure it's much better now.)

Sweating and feeling cold can be a sign of just being exhausted and if he's eaten little for days it sounds pretty normal to be honest.

Phone your GP and listen to out of hours advice.

whatsleep · 21/06/2020 18:27

Hopefully he will agree to seeking medical advice. My dh is stubborn too it’s horrible when you’re worried and they are so blasé.

SunshineCake · 21/06/2020 18:27

He definitely needs to be seen. Tell him he has to be unless he wants his family to be potentially mourning him next Father's Day. Sometimes I use the kids if I feel dh isn't looking after himself enough. I doubt I will have to since he did have a heart attack.

Mumof1I · 21/06/2020 18:32

Does he have any abdominal pain? Did he have any during his d and v. Could it be his appendix, if perforates often feels better for a short while before infection takes over.

Lifeisforliving123 · 21/06/2020 18:33

Hes had norovirus. Takes a bit to feel better. Review tomorrow if poorly gp visit

Lifeisforliving123 · 21/06/2020 18:35

You say no fever but sweating and he feels fine. Plenty of fluid, rest and a day of work if needed.

DC10 · 21/06/2020 18:50

I would go to A&E

CorianderLord · 21/06/2020 18:52

.6 down? He shouldn't be in the shower he should be seeing a doctor. Even if it's nothing, I'd rather be was embarrassed than dead. At least call 111
