Bike storage when you live in a terrace house or flat

This is more of a moan than anything else.

Bike storage is such a pain when you live in a terrace house of flat. I looked at so many options. It’s just two of us (me and a teen) and currently our bikes are kept in a shed at the back of the house, which keeps them safe, but it’s just such a pain to get them out as we have to take them through the house. Hallway is very narrow so can’t keep them there. There is no room at the front for a shed. A few years I tried to keep a bike in the small space at the front of my house but it was stolen within a day even though it was very securely chained up. The council has started installing bike storage hangars in the streets and that seems like an ideal solution but they are not very secure and I have heard that quite a few bikes have been stolen from them. So frustrating!!

I've currently got two bikes propped up in my kitchen - and that's their home, they've been there for months. I get it!

When I lived in London my bike always lived inside. It was literally one of the first questions when trying to find somewhere to rent, because I commuted on it. We all got bashed hips from bikes, and they were often in narrow places where you had to squeeze past, and we all just dealt with it. Finding other cyclists to live with helps and sounds like you both cycle so would understand it!

I'm saving up to try and buy a place and on the list of requirements is somewhere for the bike!

wrt bike locks: get a frame lock like this plus a chain.
bike theft is opportunistic. frame locks really slow thieves down.

Thanks @needallthesleep. It'ssuch a deterrent for shorter trips having to play Jenga for 10 minutes in our tiny shed before and after!
