Peloton alternatives

Hello!

I read about the Peloton and it looks fab. Also expensive though. Can anyone either persuade me the peloton is worth it, or give me tips on what similar products are on the market.

Background:

I have never been to the gym. I am not sporty at all, but am motivated both by the privacy of exercising in my own home, and by the fact that I’ve piled on the pounds in lockdown.

I have a big birthday coming up, and I really want to change my body shape and get healthier, fitter, have more energy and so on.

I think if I were a gym bunny I’d probably feel justified in buying a peloton, but as it is I don’t think I can justify it!

I am really short (4’11”) I would need an exercise bike where I would be able to reach the pedals 😂😂

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Bumping because I also want to know! I would love a peloton because I think the competitive aspect of the app would motivate me but I don’t think I can justify the price Sad

Look on the mumsnet search engine. There was a very recent thread on this probably 3-4 weeks ago.
Alot of money if you've never done a spin class before although I believe you can do other sessions as part of the cost that aren't spin and the actual bikes are very high tech. I've got a decent second hand spin bike in my garden shed that I use a couple of times a week but I knew I loved indoor cycling before I invested. Loads will come on and say it's amazing but it's a big investment in
something you don't even know you'll enjoy - like buying a £2000 road bike if you've never cycled before.

We've had one for almost three weeks and love it. I'm someone who doesn't find exercise that addictive, and am usually forcing myself to do my 3 planned sessions a week. On the Peloton I find it hard to take a rest day.

Keiser m3i. But costs nearly as much as the peloton. The Keiser is a better bike but the peloton is a better experience. There’s plenty of Facebook pages where you can get more information.

I use the peloton app and bought a decent spinning bike. So much cheaper.

Not only is the peloton bike expensive (and prone to issues of the fb groups are anything to go by) you also have to pay £39 p/m to access classes.

The app is £13 and my spin bike cost £500.

I love it and think the classes are fab.

Do you like spin? I wouldn't invest without knowing that. I bloody HATE spin. If it s your thing then great.

I have a Peloton and I love it but I already had/have a daily exercise habit and knew I would fall into the cult as a Les Mills devotee too. So I'm here to comment as a fellow shorty! It's quite a reach unless you have short legs and a long body/arms...the seat goes down really low but you've got to be so careful with your back and neck. Before you make any decision, contact the customer services for any spin bike you're considering and give them your measurements.

If you make the commitment to Peloton then you will see amazing results. There are lots of different cycling programmes you can follow and so many different instructors and types of music to keep you inspired. I also use the app for meditation and outdoor walks. Don't forget that the app is also £50 per month alongside the cost of the bike. Resale values for the bike are high so it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work out for you...no worse than paying gym membership for 12 months.

Also, I hated spin at the gym. Completely different and much easier to go at your own pace but still be challenged.
