End of tenancy clean

In the next couple of months I will be leaving my rented house. What level of cleaning is expected at the end? I am wondering about getting someone in to do a deeper clean if necessary and what that might cost? The house is in good condition and I have received positive feedback from the letting agents about how I am keeping it clean and maintained.

Get it deep cleaned and get a receipt from the cleaner. That way, the landlord can't claim you left it a total pit and try to keep chunks of deposit. If you've kept it in good nick, then it shouldn;t cost too much.

Sorry, to add it cost the standard rate for the cleaner (which I think was about £7 per hour) to clean my DParents home before we sold it.

it needs to be left as you found it less wear and tear. There should be a checkout when you leave, this is compared with the detailed inventory taken when you arrived. Any differences deemed as damage are then used by the landlord in a deposit claim, which you could then dispute - the burden of proof is on the landlord.

remove all your stuff and all rubbish, clean it to the standard of 'I could move in without having to clean'. Set post redirect, take meter readings, take lots of dated photos.

none of this is any concern of the agent as you have no contract with them.

ps tenant fees act: clauses insisting on a professional clean are now unenforceable.

Definitely get it deep cleaned and a receipt for any work done. Also take before and after pics which are date and time stamped, keep a copy for yourself/selves.

My parents rent out properties and I do the painting and decorating and also end of tenancy cleaning for them when tenants have left without doing anything beyond moving out their bits and pieces.

Because of this I cleaned the first 4 places I lived in, myself. Didn’t have any issues until Place #4, which we actually repainted (white) just before we moved out. It was a shock to have a big chunk of deposit taken ‘for cleaning’ when we’d fixed an on going mould issue, repainted the bathroom, bedroom and lounge and I’d borrowed a carpet cleaner for the carpets.

I stupidly hadn’t taken pics because I’d never had problems before and didn’t feel I could fight my corner as I moved 2hrs away and the letting agents wouldn’t talk about it over the phone.
