Tips for stopping the snacking???

I am not in a position to just not buy snacks in as everyone else still wants them and I don't want to deprive anyone else for my own needs but that means I want eat them all!
I have been tracking my calories and am at a deficit most days but not really enough to lose weight.
I have been looking at pictures of Michelle Keegan who is the same asg as me and wishing I had the will power to help me look even half as good as her!
Any tips to stop the snacking please?

I was going to say don’t buy them, but if others in the household want them then that’s not going to work.

You just have to have some strong will and not eat them. If you’re busy doing something else then maybe it will take your mind off them. I can sit all afternoon crocheting and not eat a thing because I am occupied.

Boredom is definitley the biggest problem but I don't really have the money to plough into a hobby. I love reading but I go through books super quick so it costs me a fortune!

Library for books! Audiobooks and ebooks available through apps at the moment.

What seems to be working (only for two weeks, I'm still figuring it out) for me is Sunday to Thursday having fruit/veg/nuts/yoghurt as pudding or snacks when hungry but "allowing" myself more sweet puddings i.e. ice cream/chocolate/sweets (one of, obviously...) on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Also stopping buying share packet size things. I am trying to build healthier habits, rather than focusing on losing weight, but right now my willpower can't cope with big bags of crisps or chocolate!!

Also meal planning.

Also recognising when I'm hungry and doing something about it when I still have enough willpower to choose well..! I.e. had soup and a yoghurt for lunch, which filled me up but is also quite small for me so I was expecting to get hungry this afternoon really. I ignored it for a bit then realised I was thinking about chocolate...so went and sliced up an apple and a couple of pieces of brie.

It depends whether you're trying to stop snacking (can't help there!) or improve what you snack on/lessen the effect of your snacking.

Probably not the healthiest choice, but if I find myself reaching for snacks out of boredom I make a cup of tea instead.

It gives me something to hold which is half of what snacking is for me.

Clean your teeth, or paint your nails. Always works for me because you won't want to snack with a minty mouth and if you have wet nails then you can't snack because you'll smudge your nails.

Buy snacks you don't like! Eg Jaffa cakes or Garibaldi biscuits or cheese and onion crisps.

lubeybooby · 20/06/2020 16:59

have bovril (teaspoon of the paste in a small mug, add original franks red hot sauce if you like spice) or one of those 10 cal jellies. Sometimes I add a blob of low fat squirty cream

Cans of sugar free pop in the fridge works amazing for me!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/06/2020 17:05

My suggestion would be cutting out sugar as far as you possibly can - and fast carbohydrates like crisps because they will just trigger an insulin response and that means more picking and snacking.

You can do this but it is on you not to eat them, no matter what your household does. Getting your food prepared in a great tip too.

Mschatterbox, that kid of works for me but since using that I am now addicted to diet coke so just another kind of beast!

This is the best idea!

Don't buy snacks. Once you do a week it'll become a habit

JustC · 20/06/2020 17:24

I can't stop, but ( I try to) opt for healthier snacks. Carrots and humus, grapes, lower cal cereal bars sunflower seeds, walnuts etc.

I can’t believe you don’t like Jaffa cakes 😱

Hard to buy stuff I don’t like as all of what the kids eat I do like. I guess buying fewer biscuits would work as there are some the kids like that I’m really not fussed on.
