Whatever happened to jokes on lolly sticks?

And wouldn’t it boost morale if the concept was reinstated?
I used to love the jokes on lolly sticks when I was little. Had a lolly the other day and realised they’ve disappeared! Who can I write to about this travesty? Should I start a petition?

Oh yes! I remember lolly stick jokes. You still get (terrible) jokes on penguin bar wrappers.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/06/2020 11:25

I had a strawberry split recently. It was not the same as the ones I remember from childhood. We used to have sparkler lollies and they always had jokes on the stick.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/06/2020 11:25

Gobalisation/ languages. Making the lollies in one location and exporting to umpteen countries.

You could pppick up a penguin instead? Grin

hopingtobedally · 20/06/2020 11:27

Prob banned by the pc brigade

TitianaTitsling · 20/06/2020 11:31

I loved lolly jokes!
What do Alexander the Great and Winnie the Pooh have in common?

Same middle name.

zippityzip · 20/06/2020 11:46

The fact we don't get toys in cereal anymore also upsets me.

LadySpratt · 20/06/2020 11:48

@BogRollBOGOF, you made me laugh with’Gobalisation’. And if it was intended, good on you!

Adirondack · 20/06/2020 11:49

OMG yes toys in cereal! And they were just loose in the actual cereal so you never knew if you’d be the one with a toy in your bowl! So exciting!

I was just talking about this with DH the other day and wondering the same thing! I miss lolly jokes, they were great.

zippityzip · 20/06/2020 11:53

So exciting but also argument inducing when you have siblings who also want the crap toy!

Adirondack · 20/06/2020 13:34

@BogRollBOGOF yes I think you’re right, it’s a globalisation issue. Maybe someone could invent pictogram puzzles and jokes for lollies that wouldn’t need language? Something like ikea assembly instructions?

I think it was only ever one particular brand that did them, and maybe they're not trading any more.

FlamingoAndJohn · 20/06/2020 13:44

I remember getting ice lollies that were just in paper wrappers that were open at the bottom, not sealed at all. You would blow up the end to unstick them.

But yes, I had no idea they were gone. What about on supermarket own brand ones. They must be made in the U.K., surely.

mum2jakie · 20/06/2020 13:45

Wasn't it just Funny Feet lollies that had the jokes?

Adirondack · 20/06/2020 14:06

@FlamingoAndJohn yes the blowy paper bag ones! They should bring those back- surely paper is better than plastic?

Gustavo1 · 20/06/2020 14:12

I’m pretty sure we have had fab lollies this year with jokes on. Maybe I imagined it

I just told this to DS (13), he smiled and then got on his phone and starts typing. What are you doing I enquired. He was googling Alexander the Greats middle name!!!! 😂😂😂 Bless him. I had to explain the joke!!!
Pelleas · 20/06/2020 14:34

Walls 'Sparkle' lollies used to have them. For the princely sum of 8p back in the 1980s. I expect some joyless cost-cutter put paid to them.
