Advice about shaving legs

My 13 year old is wanting to shave her legs. Does anyone have any advice on how to start her off in the best and easiest way please? I'm wondering whether the electrical device route would be safer... If so, does anyone recommend a product, please? Or is a razor the best way. Any advice welcome!

my dd uses this razor

It is reusable and easy to use, you just have to replace the heads when they become blunt rather than the whole thing. She coats her legs in conditioner (I buy cheap bottles from the likes of poundland or supermarket own brands for this purpose) and then shaves. The conditioner seems to prevent her getting cuts on her legs

Thank you! I have never seen this brand before .

Have you considered the Philips Lumea? You can both use it if you don’t want to spend so much on one person. I’m 25 and just wish that my mum had got it for me when I first started shaving as it’s a godsend, saves you loads on razors and creams etc and is just quite simply wonderful, I recommend it to everyone, I love it!!

But if you don’t want to go down the IPL route and want to stick to shaving, I’d recommend getting her a mans razor, they’re superior in so many ways! She can also use conditioner instead of shaving cream, or even a natural oil (like coconut) and her legs will be wonderfully smooth and moisturised :)

We like the olay razors with inbuilt soap bars. You buy replacement heads when required

Thank you all. Really appreciate your suggestions. I have the lumea actually - had never even considered that. Will look into it.

Don't think lumea is suitable for use on children

You could get a cheap battery operated one if it's for hair maintenance (they cut pretty close) rather than needing perfectly shaven legs, iyswim.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 20/06/2020 20:30

The lumea isn't meant to be used by dc under 18 according to the website x

Blackbird1234 · 22/06/2020 09:57

Ah I didn't realise that, ignore my suggestion then OP! :)

An electric one may be a good starting point. I use FFS and the send me replacement blades via the post.

I've gone back to using a cheap Phillips ladyshave. Ok, it doesn't give you as close a shave as a manual razor so might not be good if she's got very dark hair, but it's quick and no risk of nicks.

I used to regularly lacerate my ankles as a teen so my mum got me an electric razor which did the job.

orangejuicer · 22/06/2020 18:07

Same here sleepyhead!

Southernemmy · 22/06/2020 18:13

Thanks guys. All these suggestions are fab. Will try both the electric and razor and see what she gets on with. I guess the cheap ladyshave might be a good one to get started with.
