Been watching it on Netflix. Is it very true?

Sorry to spam the thread but I also didn't buy Emerald Fennell as Camilla. Far too wet.

RhianFuckingMorris · 20/06/2020 19:49

Pr8nce Phillips was a known philanderer. He comes across as a complete dick in the Crown whichbis how I've always assumed he is in real life.

Powerplant · 20/06/2020 20:05

Same here re Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman I found it really distracting watching her but really enjoyed the series

I can’t believe they didn’t include the Princess Anne kidnapping story. That would have been awesome. The actress who plays her is brilliant.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/06/2020 20:49

We love it - just watched the episode introducing Philip's mum. We spend a lot of time googling too - e.g. I couldn't believe she wore a bright red coat to visit Aberfan after the disaster, but it seems she did.

TSSDNCOP · 21/06/2020 04:16

I watched The Kings Speech tonight and found HBC excellent as the QM.

Davros · 21/06/2020 11:11

HBC is too old to play Princess Anne in that era. I watch The Crown totally at face value, I know there's a lot of dramatic licence taken and I don't care how real it is as long as it's enjoyable. It's very well made

GreyGardens88 · 21/06/2020 11:18

I agree regarding the Princess Anne kidnapping, shame they didn't include that.

I couldn't take to series 3 either, I've only watched it through once but I've watched series 1 and 2 at least 3 times. I didn't like the casting would rather they kept the original cast and aged them appropriately.

I also find the 50s time period more interestng than the 70s

Is the one who abdicating trying to deal with the nazis true?

Iris here, his name escapes me- married to wallis, he tried to offer up a puppet monarchy, i cant remember the details but i remember thinking wow, no wonder he was not just not a royal but outcast

francienolan · 21/06/2020 11:27

David/Edward VIII @winniewonder

We have already passed the year Anne has the kidnapping, I was so disappointed it wasn't included! Presumably S4 will be about the kids marriages etc.

WobblyPenumbra · 21/06/2020 11:27

Yes all the stuff about Edward VIII being approached by the Nazis about possibly becoming a puppet ruler is evidenced.

WobblyPenumbra · 21/06/2020 11:31

I’m hoping for some of it to be dealt with in flashback. In particular I’m hoping for Philip to have (yet another) crisis about his role in life which is illustrated by his trip to Jerusalem to see the honouring of his mother for her work sheltering Jews from Hitler.

It would certainly be a shame to miss Anne’s kidnapping attempt, but I guess the story is called “The Crown”, and it’s difficult to find a place for it within the general themes of monarchy.

She played Princess Margaret
stellabelle · 21/06/2020 11:38

I do think that some people forget that the series is about The Crown, not necessarily The Royal Family. So no it's not surprising that things like the kidnapping incident with Princess Anne has been left out . The writers have rightly concentrated on The Queen and the events which shaped her reign.

Bluntness100 · 21/06/2020 11:38

I’m not sure it’s accurate to say she prevented her own kidnapping. Several people were shot and she said she was very polite to thr would be kidnapper but a passing pedestrian who happened to be a former boxer punched the guy on the head and led her away and a responding officer caught him then running away and captured him.

There were about six blokes or so involved and about four of them shot, thr boxer Was ultimately the person who prevented it and got her to safety when the responding officers then dealt with him.

TSSDNCOP · 21/06/2020 12:05

She is very honest in the interview @Bluntness100 about her involvement. She refused to get out of the car on demand. If I recall the Queen paid off the boxers mortgage.

TSSDNCOP · 21/06/2020 12:09

That said Google won't authenticate that, so perhaps just a nice story Smile

Bluntness100 · 21/06/2020 12:31

She did actually get out of the car but initially refused, but even if she hadn’t, that’s very different to her preventing her own kidnapping and does a huge disservice to the men who were shot, the officer who caught him and the boxer who punched him round the head and led her to safety.

Her kidnapping was not prevented because she said she’d not get out thr car. Her kidnapping was prevented for the simple reason a pedestrian stepped in, Punched him and led her away whilst responding officers caught him.

ShadowMane Blushquite right, I meant HBC is too old to play Princess Margaret at that time

i was thinking..... i remember Princess Anne in the Crown, and i'm sure she was really quite young
BalloonSlayer · 21/06/2020 18:09

I didn't think the Crown had got as far as the Kidnapping attempt yet. She was on the way to Buckingham Palace with Mark Phillips when it happened, and where the Crown finished she was still dallying with Andrew Parker Bowles.

Apparently she phoned the Queen to say she was delayed. Her Maj said "Oh dear, have you been held up?" and Anne replied "Well you could say that . . . " Grin

lyralalala · 21/06/2020 18:15

Wasn’t Philip’s mum incredible though? Loved that story line.

Alice had a remarkable life.

The last episode featured the silver jubilee which was in 1977, the kidnapping attempt was in 1974 and Anne was already married at that point
BalloonSlayer · 21/06/2020 20:15

Did it? Oh goodness I don't remember that, sorry!

Overseasmom100 · 21/06/2020 23:42

Not warming to series 3.
