I hope this unimaginative thread title doesn't put off all the amazing posters from this group!

As we transition into this new phase things could get interesting....

Oh no @Babysharkdoodoodood. I hope you get it sorted asap and safely.

MarieVanGoethem · 15/09/2020 10:07

Oh @Babysharkdoodoodood, I’m so sorry. What an absolute... well please just insert your absolute favourite sweary phrase of choice there please.

Have you a plan yet? I hope you can get it sorted ASAP - your surgeon sounds like she’s really on top of things, at least, which is what you need. (Unlike the absolute eejit managing care of my aunt’s friend who left her with the form of renal catheter thingy that needs changing every 6[?] weeks for... almost 6 months?) Look after yourself Flowers

Babysharkdoodoodood · 18/09/2020 14:29

I'm seeing the surgeon first thing on Tuesday. I just want everything gone. I said before the last surgery that I wanted it out if there was any leaking, but she just cleaned up the silicone and glued me back. So another surgery required to get it all out and I'll probably need drains. Sigh. I really want the other one off, but not sure if she'll agree to that as it's healthy.

Going to be so lopsided. Gah!

MarieVanGoethem · 18/09/2020 18:57

I’d be really q cross if I were you given that. I sort-of-understand thinking “well this almost always works” - but if someone with capacity says, very clearly, that that’s not what they want & they understand the consequences...

Do you think there’s any chance she’d do it in the circs? She’s responsible for you having to go through the extra surgery...

I hope it all goes ok, anyway. And can happen ASAP, given More General Trends.

Speaking of the mean-median-&-mode levels of germiness of society: surely they’re going to have to make some kind of decision on reshielding PDQ? Apparently they were/are writing to the people who were to unshield (definitely & on purpose, not Whoops There Goes The Algorithm) this month - would hope that by almost 3 weeks into the month everyone who was going to hear would have heard, but obviously this is Her Majesty’s current government at work, as opposed to anybody with even a vague clue. Reasonably confident my cats would do a better job of things. At the very least they can model the staying indoors bit of the shielding advice; and my black cat ensures strangers stay at least 2 metres away from him at all times. Honestly though, wittering on about the possibility of a second lockdown with no mention of us? Rude.

Teaistheanswer · 18/09/2020 19:49

@babysharkdoodoodood I really hope that you manage to get a solution that works for you for the longer term.

Just seen a mention regarding shielding on the BBC live thread. Can't seem to link it Blush but basically it implies that a more tailored approach will be taken and that nothing is signed off yet Hmm Well get a flipping move on then!

MarieVanGoethem · 18/09/2020 20:03

@Teaistheanswer - BBC Live threads are utter toads, can’t do links to them, am sure they could figure out providing a link to the specific thing someone wanted to reference.
I will believe the tailored information when I see it. Tailored like an NHS hospital gown I suspect - put it on & up to you to adjust it so it covers you decently...

Teaistheanswer · 18/09/2020 20:19

@marievangoethem I think youre right there Grin

I must be honest, much as I am loving being back in class with the children I have already ended up covering for teacher absences. Luckily within my year group bubble but it has meant mixing with 90 children throughout the week. With infection rates rising I am growing increasingly nervous about it. Social distancing from little ones is very difficult. As soon as I sit down they flock around me so needless to say I don't sit down much during the school day! I'm also constantly moving backwards from the adults too. Mine is my own special form of anti-social social distancing I think Wink

MarieVanGoethem · 19/09/2020 00:52

@Teaistheanswer - they do sort of... swarm... at that age, don’t they? In a very cute way, but really not ideal when they will be at ideal germ-into-face-breathing height... Infants so often haven’t quite outgrown that habit of touching you when they want your attention, which again is quite sweet, but can leave you feeling like the dog in a particularly vigorous game of “The Farmer’s In His Dell” at the best of his; & must be really stressful at the moment, even with handwashings galore.

They’ve just announced London might be next up for a local lockdown. That’ll be interesting, to say the least... Hmm On top of which my brother returns to teaching on-campus on Tuesday. Staying overnight the night before because he has to start earlier than usual & a normal start means leaving the house at 0500 - & he absolutely can’t risk there being train issues & his being stuck here. So we’ll be back to distancing inside the house etc. Sadly a second bathroom has failed to magically materialise over the summer though...

Teaistheanswer · 19/09/2020 19:08

@marievangoethem that is exactly what it's like! I even find myself saying 'please stop patting me I am not a dog!'Grin
Fingers crossed all goes well for your brother.

Would be interested to know how things have gone for anyone else who has returned to school. We had another email from the head to remind us we must contact her if we have symptoms etc.

Cloudburstagain · 19/09/2020 20:24

Oh no @Babysharkdoodoodood hope you have a successful appointment on Tuesday and it all goes well.

Return to teaching has been interesting. Sadly many children and parents do not seem to want to follow guidelines and rules so I can totally see why the numbers are rising. When schools close again they may be the first to complain, and I hope there is no keyworker provision this time by schools but provided by the Government in another way ( they have had 6 months after all!) so that everyone realises they need to follow the rules!!

Teaistheanswer · 19/09/2020 20:45

What age group are you with @cloudburstagain?
Our headteacher is rather scary so on the whole the parents are behaving very well Grin

I love the way every statement about going forward includes the phrase about keeping schools open no matter what Hmm

Cloudburstagain · 19/09/2020 23:12

11-18.

Teaistheanswer · 20/09/2020 07:54

@cloudburstagain I think you've got the much worse situation. I hear from friends that secondary schools are very difficult places to keep any kind of distance at all. I really hope you are finding ways to try and keep yourself safe.

Cloudburstagain · 20/09/2020 08:00

Hope it goes ok for you this week @Teaistheanswer. I am happy my school is doing all it can, less happy that parents and children do not follow guidance! I hope Gov rules/laws are made more simple and clearer for everyone in the coming week to help.

For me the big change was not leaving my garden until July to suddenly being at work in Sept. I do not think I did enough in August to prepare myself. Now I am basically shielding unless a I am at work!

And hope it is ok for your brother @MarieVanGoethem

Teaistheanswer · 20/09/2020 08:18

@cloudburstagain thank you. I know exactly what you mean. Apart from spending a short while in two friends gardens I didn't go anywhere either and now I really don't want to so pretty much work, odd medical appointment and home.
I wonder if we'll get a mention in Boris's address on Tuesday Hmm

Egghead68 · 21/09/2020 14:03

I’m wondering if we will be mentioned too. My money’s on either nothing or “there will be separate advice”.

MarieVanGoethem · 21/09/2020 17:06

My brother’s just left. The cats aren’t going to be happy about this At All. They do not hold with Outside...

I ordered a second towel ring for the bathroom this morning. One that fits with a suction-cup-thingy, so (in theory...) I’ll be able to fit it myself just fine. Also ordered more hand towels for both the kitchen & the bathroom. In the bathroom we’ve just been using our bath towels for hand towels but it’d be nice to go back to the simple luxury of drying one's hands right by the basin. Especially given return [anti-]social distancing in home (as much as we can) & current uncertainty over possible London lockdown or “circuit-breaker” lockdown - & of course, as ever, Ignoring Shielders And Hoping They’ll Just Go Away. That latter is so very reassuring, isn’t it...?

Hope that you’ve managed to avoid feeling of being Most Popular Animal At The Petting Zoo today @Teaistheanswer. To be clear, hope the same for you too @Cloudburstagain, but am rather assuming it’s not such a thing in your setting Confused Hope this week goes well for both of you & anyone in your respective vicinities with any germs keeps them to themselves. Important to learn about When Not To Share...

@Egghead68 - probably separate advice that people have worked very hard on during the pause & it will be world-beating advice from the top specialists AND WE SHOULD APPLAUD THEIR WORK IMMEDIATELY first shielder to stop clapping gets thrown into a Spoons on a Saturday night with no mask & no handgel Hmm

Cloudburstagain · 21/09/2020 17:28

Great idea about the towel holder @MarieVanGoethem
In fact for my birthday I asked for new hand towels... so we have enough to cope with washing in winter every day! We have no tumble drier.

UnholyStramash · 21/09/2020 17:53

@Babysharkdoodoodood I’m sorry to see you’re having problems with your implant. And with your ‘just joking’ work mates. Some people are so insensitive. It might be the surgeon will be reluctant to do ‘extra’ surgery due to the pandemic. With a mastectomy as well as implant removal you’d be in for longer (possibly- I know of some early discharges with single Mx), be at risk of complications, etcetera. In other circs you’d likely have no problems getting surgeons to agree to the Mx. You’ve clearly had time to think it through - generally to do ‘extras’ they need to be sure it’s not a sudden idea. It must be really hard to be lopsided. School people, all I can do is wish you all good luck and sensible and supportive colleagues.

I myself am mostly at home. I need a bit more oomph to go out for walks. The nicer weather was good and meant garden time. DS3 went back to work this week and will now be away from me indefinitely. For years now we’ve had Christmas Day dinner just for us six (2 parents, 4 children) so my hope is that we’ll see them at Christmas. Eldest was here in August for his birthday so that was great as we’d had 3 tamer celebrations during proper lockdown and shielding. No expectations of anything more social before Christmas. I’d love to see the sea and go to a city but I don’t feel happy on public transport. I’ve got my flu jab early October and blood test on 30th. Exciting times, ha ha.

Egghead68 · 21/09/2020 18:15

I think you are right @MarieVanGoethem!

Threat level back to 4 so surely they will have to unpause shielding.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 21/09/2020 18:17

ugh. level 4 so do we shield again or not? i guess we'll be the last to know anything as per previous lockdown :(

Egghead68 · 21/09/2020 18:21

Found this for Wales:
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-wales-54212989

Teaistheanswer · 21/09/2020 19:36

Hi all Smile
No patting today @marievangoethem Grin but I had a momentary lapse of concentration and sat down next to the table group i was supporting...jumped up like I'd had an electric shock! It's so hard especially when I often support the children who are really struggling.

I don't think we will be told to shield again. I think they'll find some lame 'scientific' reason that all we have to do is be 'really careful' and 'wash our hands'lots Hmm
Will be interested to see what measures they do bring in though.
Was worried to see that in France now you need three confirmed cases in a class (nursery and primary) before the class is sent home. Wouldn't be surprised if we follow suit with that one.

QueenOllie · 21/09/2020 20:34

Work have asked me to go back in HmmConfused after the briefing today. Really?! I have emailed my consultant as I can and have been WFH successfully

Egghead68 · 21/09/2020 22:50

That’s terrible @QueenOllie. Can you refer yourself to occupational health to get a risk assessment? Get support from your union?
