I hope this unimaginative thread title doesn't put off all the amazing posters from this group!

As we transition into this new phase things could get interesting....

Just watched the briefing. Now I'm confused because he said Chris Whitty would talk about shielding and didn't. Did I miss something?

Egghead68 · 31/07/2020 12:50

You are right. CW said he would address shielding and didn’t. I think they said further guidance would be released later.
Although all the other loosening changes tomorrow have been postponed due to safety concerns, shielding still stops tomorrow. Right...

iVampire · 31/07/2020 12:51

On another thread, and now on Beeb website, it says the shielding pause will go ahead as planned

They did promise us further guidance around now about what the newly deshielded could/couldn’t do, but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

Wondering if planned additional activities to the ‘permitted’ list have been scrubbed?

Is2020OverYet · 31/07/2020 14:45

Flowers and Cake and possibly Wine for those of you ending shielding tomorrow. I imagine you have pretty mixed feelings about it, I know I will when we get to that point.

Had a day out to a National Trust property last weekend, I can't fault their system for booking slots and keeping everyone socially distanced. It was still quite stressful being out and about though, and I was exhausted afterwards.

I'm moving back home tomorrow. I know shielding isn't paused yet here but it feels like the right time. I have the option to go back to my friend's flat if things get worse again. I'm both excited and nervous in equal measures at the moment.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 31/07/2020 16:04

I don't know what to do now. Spoke to my inspector yesterday about returning next week, after my surgery on Tuesday and I said, possibly Thursday or Friday.

Then one of the supervisors accidentally did a 'send to all' email. Meant to be just to supervisors GrinAnd it was a list of us homeworkers. I'm down on it to stay at home until September.

More phone calls. I'm tired. I'm due to start nights at 2200 and I can't nap cos it's too hot even with my little ac unit. And I'm dreading Tuesday.

And crying cos I have to cancel my holiday in October because I'm not risking Ibiza as I don't have enough leave for quarantine. Tried to book 2 weeks in April for my birthday so I can rebook holiday and it took the wankers 15 minutes to ponder it and deny it. Even after I checked and there's no-one on leave when I want to go.

Teaistheanswer · 31/07/2020 17:12

Just seen that gov.uk guidelines have been updated about 15 minutes ago (I really need to get a life!) Not that there is much on there. Basically shielding has paused and off you all tottle into the world Hmm

Teaistheanswer · 31/07/2020 17:14

Sorry @egghead68 you were way ahead of me there, and you did a link Grin

Egghead68 · 31/07/2020 17:27

Great minds!

So we should continue to work from home if possible and to keep social contacts low. It’s not clear whether we can use public transport - presumably not as it’s not possible to stay 2m or 1m+mitigation apart (on the tube anyhow).

UnholyStramash · 31/07/2020 18:00

I went into a shop this afternoon, first time since March. A small local carpet shop to look at vinyl options for our kitchen floor. It was fine though one shop guy kept moving into our space - I just stepped back each time though he seemed totally oblivious. I also nebbed in through the hairdresser’s window and into a nice cafe. I’m considering going for tea tomorrow with DH as it’s our anniversary tomorrow. 31 years, knock me over with a handy feather. We went through a bad patch over 10 years ago and I don’t think either of us anticipated getting this far. Grin

I’m not ready for the hairdresser yet. Somebody on twitter who knows things (an MP who’s also a medic) reckons hairdressers aren’t as safe if they’re only wearing visors (she says they should be wearing masks too - otherwise all their potentially infected spit os spraying onto you when they’re washing your hair or in fact standing over you to cut hair.

It was good getting out like that but, oh dear, I’m going to be mostly at home in the near future.

iVampire · 31/07/2020 18:05

Thanks for the link - no letter here yet but have looked at the link (above)

It’s the same as when they announced the pause, strengthening the advice to keep your number of contacts ‘low’, plus adding non-essential shopping and going to the pub as things OK to do

Egghead68 · 31/07/2020 18:55

I don’t think they are sending more letters are they?

Egghead68 · 31/07/2020 18:56

Does anyone have any idea what we are supposed to do about public transport?

UnholyStramash · 31/07/2020 19:58

Well, in Scotland we can use public transport, wearing masks of course. I think I’ll be very cautious. Bottom line is I don’t want to catch Covid.

Egghead68 · 31/07/2020 20:10

Thanks @UnholyStramash. I think I’ll be avoiding it, at peak times anyhow.

Cloudburstagain · 02/08/2020 13:30

Well the 1st August has gone and no real difference here.
No new letter here.

My youngest child, not yet at school has a hospital appointment coming up and the letter says any child aged 3 or more has to wear a mask. It is a 30 min apt and no idea if they will be on time - it is an eye apt/test at the hospital. Or if I can take my dc or should I get my DH too? Those are the things I am unsure of.

The only place I have been is to my own hospital apt and Gp.

Need to buy school shoes and really do not want to order online, for my oldest dc.

Hope everyone is ok.

Has anyone had to return to a workplace? I have 4 weeks until I have to, with no masks etc. Though am thinking of buying some with filters and 3 layer and wearing them when not in the classroom with the children, even though we are not meant to. However, in a shared staff room I think I will feel happier.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 02/08/2020 21:27

I'm going out tomorrow! Booked a table at the last place we went before lockdown for breakfast. Also having to get a birthday card. I've to, DH he can go into the shop and I'll wait outside. Not brave enough for the next step.

Back to work on Saturday now. It's a late 1230-2200 and I'm allowed to tuck myself away. Have also cancelled Ibiza in October but rebooked for April without losing anything. Going to visit my son instead. My youngest is back on Saturday as well. He liked lockdown as he's antisocial like me Grin

We're overflowing with masks here now. Every time I see a deal, I snap them up. Can't bear gloves or we'd have them as well.

Egghead68 · 02/08/2020 21:28

Same here. Been in all day. Planning 2 sessions of outdoor exercise a week and that’s it.

Cloudburstagain · 02/08/2020 23:53

Hope you have a lovely meal @Babysharkdoodoodood

Which masks do you like best. I need the metal strip for glasses, and like pleated ones of the few I have bought but need more,

Sorry - totally wrong thread! Had this open on a tab next to the Enid Blyton one!! Have reposted and asked for it to be deleted - duh!

Cloudburstagain · 03/08/2020 11:21

I like Enid Blyton Pebble!!

Pebble21uk · 03/08/2020 11:34

@Cloudburstagain well there's certainly nothing like a bit of escapism at the moment to try and stop us worrying Grin I've been reading, watching and making allsorts to get me through!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 03/08/2020 15:50

I just get the blue triple layer ones. Packs of 50 usually. If you fold a tissue thinly and pop it at the top (underneath) of the mask then squeeze the metal bit to hold it in place, it soaks up the moisture and stops the fogging.
Babysharkdoodoodood · 03/08/2020 15:55

Oh and I forgot about the eat out discount. We went to a lovely pub in warwick and had full english and coffee for £6. Much nicer than a Wetherspoons cheapo one. Proper butchers sausages and black pudding. DH had my hash brown. I actually had a slice of toast and my blood sugar didn't rocket like it used to. (Probably cos I had a massive IBS attack when we got home).

So tired now though and the stent is pinging away like mad. Maybe did a bit too much for the first time. Forgot about the godawful hills in warwick.
