Can you use a slow cooker to keep buffet food warm?

Like scampi or chips? (We're doing a "pub" themed buffet for fathers day; only the Ploughman's will be cold!
If so, how do you do it? Well be outside but have outdoors plugs and extension cables.

I think mine has a setting on it for keeping things warm, I think it would work ok for chips etc for a bit but not too long or it would dry out I suppose.

Are people even going to want to pick through a buffet?

Government guidelines are that you shouldn’t share food and crockery.

Yes but not scampi or chips they will go soggy.

Fine for things like curry / chilli / stew / rice.

Maybe plate out the scampi and chips onto disposable foil trays and leave in the oven on low instead?

If 2/3 of you form a chain to put the trays onto plates and transfer them from the kitchen to the garden it won't take long.

Might be easier to dish up in the kitchen and take it out on 2 separate trays (one for us and one for mum & dad). . We've got plastic baskets to do "chicken/scampi in a basket" type things. There are only 5 if us so it doesn't need to turn into a performance. Lots of sanitiser and antibacterial wipes on hand.
