Do arrows in a supermarket really make much difference?

From what I can see hardly anyone adheres to the arrows anyway. As long as you keep 2m apart from people does it matter whether you are going the same way or not?
I wait at busy aisles and wait for people to finish at an item before I go to it, but most people just seem to do their shop as usual. Makes me wonder if we should just scrap the arrows, and try to enforce the 2m ideal more? Also it would free up staff from monitoring people on the right direction.

I've been following the arrows.

It's kind of like a game...

Samcro · 18/06/2020 18:52

I pretty much ignore them.
But i have only been to supermarkets

CatBatCat · 18/06/2020 18:53

No arrows in my local lidl. Its just a free for all, with 5 kid families on an outing, no queues, no cleaning stuff for the trollies/baskets.

LittleOgres · 18/06/2020 18:54

Hasn’t a member of staff reprimanded you Samcro?

Almost everyone at my Tesco follows the arrows and keeps 2m apart. I feel seriously fed up with those who don’t.

Elouera · 18/06/2020 18:56

I seem to be the ONLY one at my local tescos following the arrows!!!

People haven't been following them from the start, but the aisles should have small barrier things at each end to make is more obvious which way the aisle is supposed to go and guide people around.

ChaoticCatling · 18/06/2020 18:58

They are ridiculous. I've had to make my way up past five people in one aisle to be able to go down an aisle with one other person in it. I get my fresh food then only need a few bits elsewhere in the store.

maddy68 · 18/06/2020 19:07

I absolutely follow them. Why wouldn't you ?

TheGreatWave · 18/06/2020 19:17

I do.

It is why I hate going to the big Tesco as I find it all so stressful. Everyone follows it at the little one and we all laugh together as we get hopelessly confused (or quickly scoot back as we have literally passed what we need)

heartsonacake · 18/06/2020 19:19

Of course I follow the arrows and keep to 2m, and no, I don’t struggle to do so either Confused

If you’re ignoring the arrows you’re being extremely selfish and shouldn’t be surprised if you’re asked to leave.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 18/06/2020 19:24

Yes I follow the arrows but feel in the minority. When in my local Asda I play spot the Asda worker going the wrong way and you would be surprised how many there are Shock

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 18/06/2020 19:39

We do all our supermarket shopping online - either via delivery or click & collect to avoid those stresses.

Montysmam1 · 18/06/2020 19:53

I follow them most of the time, but it's so annoying when your doing 3 household shops and realise you've missed something off someone's list!! Have to admit I have dashed back when the coast is clear Grin

TooTiredTodayOk · 18/06/2020 19:58

The arrows and the one way system in my local supermarket are ridiculous, it means everyone is forced to walk around the whole store whether you actually need to, or not.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 18/06/2020 19:59

There aren't any arrows in my Aldi.

What a hardship Hmm
TooTiredTodayOk · 18/06/2020 20:01

What a hardship

Yes it is. It's forcing more people to be in the store, exposing themselves to potential germs, far longer than they want or need to be.

ItsSummer · 18/06/2020 20:02

Yes they do as long as people follow them.

I’m sick to death of people who seem to think they’re invincible and have no care about other people.

I can’t quit believe this. Every aisle has a till end and every other aisle has an arrow pointing towards the till end 🤷‍♀️
CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 18/06/2020 20:05

my small local has arrows which i follow sometimes but i much prefer the shops without arrows.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 18/06/2020 20:06

I follow the arrows in the shops where they have them, but it feels like I'm the only bloody one and I in a lot of shops it makes things worse because you are forced to go up isles you don't need to.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 18/06/2020 20:07

i dont do big shopping - it is hateful
i get home delivery or click and collect.

Fatted · 18/06/2020 20:07

In our local Asda, I immediately have to flout their one way system because the self scanners are located by the checkouts, rather than the front door.

Generally, I try to stick to the arrows. But I get annoyed that it means I have to go down aisles I don't want anything from.

Shockingly, we don't appear to shop at the same Tesco Hmm what are the chances eh?

The top of each aisle is cordoned off with those retractable tape things with enough space for one trolley to walk around to the next aisle, making everyone walk whole store to the end aisle, where we are them directed all the way along past the top of the aisles we've just walked past, to a till.

BrandyandBabycham · 18/06/2020 20:09

Why do people write isles? That’s islands!
