Is this normal for baby taking first steps?

My DS is nearly one. He's started doing this thing, where he suddenly just takes what we've been calling leaps of faith. Not cautiously letting go and practicing standard. But throwing himself forwards from cruising and taking maximum two 'steps' before face planting and having this huge grin on his face. It's adorable but is this how they usually start walking? He's just throwing forwards, balancing without holding on for a matter of seconds and then falling on to the floor without any steps most of the time but a few times he has managed to take two 'steps' inverted commas as I'm not sure if they count or not..

It's quite amusing but I'm just curious if this is how they all do it? Grin

No idea as DS1 waited till he was 15m then walked across the garden in one go but it sounds very cute Smile

Strange how it varies!

One of mine did that. Another didn't walk until they walked perfectly and never fell.
As long as they're happy and not hurting themselves.

I think they're all different, DS did similar for a few weeks though before taking his first 'proper' steps. He would take one or two steps and fall over before laughing away.

Yes. It’s normal. They’re still learning to stand and move on wobbly little legs- won’t be long before he’s super fast!
If you’re concerned with it you could ask the hv

Yes he's definitely not hurting himself, that would be less cute.. he smiles and laughs. Finds it quite funny. He catches himself with his hands so doesn't hurt himself
