Mumsnet pet peeves

Does anyone have any pet peeves about the catchphrases or little snide comments on Mumsnet.
My personal favourite to a money related thread is "can't you just get a higher paying job"
So go on let's vent!GrinThanks

OP posts:
Evasmummy2019 · 18/06/2020 10:11

I posted about struggling with my mental health after giving birth to a special needs child and then losing my job and having to struggle by on the wrong amount of universal credit and I got told to get a better job, that my husband was an idiot for going self employed a year before lockdown and to stop complaining as I'd obviously lied about my situation. Woe people were really nasty to me. One poster suggested that I leave my 15 week old disabled baby to work in a hospital 12hrs a day and that I am a terrible mother for having a baby when I can't afford it. This place is dark sometimes

Flimflamfloogety · 18/06/2020 10:13

Mine is the cringy post titles. Anything that includes the words bus, huddle or anti dementors just puts me on edge 😬

The one that really gets me though is the titles with all the alliteration. I read those and immediately start thinking Captain Turbot is lose on Mumsnet!

Bluesheep8 · 18/06/2020 10:13

Sanpro' makes me instantly despise the person using the phrase. Just say pad, tampon, mooncup, or pants. It is a hideous phrase.

I've only ever heard Sanpro on here. It's ridiculous, like the person is too embarrassed to just say pad or tampon. The first time I read it I thought it was a brand of soya milk or yoghurt

Evasmummy2019 · 18/06/2020 10:17

I posted recently about my friend wanting baby clothes back and wow I got ripped a new one. There are some really awful people in mn. Got told I should not have had my child if I couldn't afford to buy her new clothes. Called a troll. And the best one was that it was my fault because a gift doesn't mean you get to keep something. I should have asked her what I should do with them

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/06/2020 10:27

Cant you get a Nanny in? No Susan I'm working class and cant afford staff Hmm

jokergal · 18/06/2020 10:35

I personally can't stand the threads about how the name Karen is bad as saying a racial slur! It's a joke.
Would you like to speak the the internet's manager?

Posters who tell you that their husband is a good father to their kids and then go on to highlight exactly why he is the antithesis of a good father. Some posters have v low standards.

Longdaysandnights · 18/06/2020 10:40

“NC” or “I’ve name changed for this one as it could potentially be quite outing with my other posts”

Well you’ve name changed so it can’t be traced back must you tell us you’ve done this. What is the benefit!

LockdownLucinda · 18/06/2020 10:41

You must stop giving a shit about your children on their 18th birthday because they are adults and must make their own decisions.

LockdownLucinda · 18/06/2020 10:44

YABU to wish grandparents would babysit so you can go out for the first time in 10 years because you should not have had dc if you won't look after them yourself.

LockdownLucinda · 18/06/2020 10:46

YABU buying mince in Tesco, you should go to your local butchers which is 50 miles away.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 18/06/2020 10:47

Evasmummy2019 your thread went feral. Sometimes when people are just going beserk on the Internet I wonder what they are like in real life. = a nightmare 😂😂 They will be the same people who won't answer the front door unless they know who it is and won't let MIL visit them in hospital. There seems to be a lot of that on here!

LockdownLucinda · 18/06/2020 10:47

YABU giving your children a lift to school which is 10 miles away. They should walk or get the bus even though there is no bus.

LockdownLucinda · 18/06/2020 10:51

If your MIL gives your dc one square of chocolate you should go NC. Even though the kid is 12.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/06/2020 10:53

Posts which make out 'Karen' is a harmless joke.
Along with other casually ageist and sexist 'banter'.

A stock phrase I find annoying is threads starting with the announcement "xxx here." . Often xxx = 'man', but it might be someone's job. It just sounds weirdly self-important.

FunTimes2020 · 18/06/2020 11:28

People who end their comment with "and I say that as someone who is a ...." Who talks like that? Knobs!!

BlueBooby · 18/06/2020 11:45

Some of these I don't think are too bad. I think people say "Name changed for this" to avoid getting "Interesting first post op Hmm" as a reply.

I dislike "reader" and "checks notes".

Reader, they were funny the first few times but they're... checks notes... old and overused now. And I say that as someone who said that.

Pythone · 18/06/2020 12:08

It annoys me when people post just to point out how uninterested they are in the thread, in a superior and sneering manner - e.g. "I've never heard of them" (about a celebrity), "I don't bother with that - I've got better things to do", "I would never spend £x on a bag/dress/hairbrush". It's both the attempt to put down people who are enjoying participating on the thread by making them look shallow or not sufficiently erudite, and also how it makes it seem as though the poster has mixed up an actual conversation where someone has asked them a question with a thread that they've chosen to post on.

BlusteryLake · 18/06/2020 12:12

That anyone who disagrees with them is stupid for not understanding "the facts"

Morgan12 · 18/06/2020 12:16

What is your AIBU?

zippityzip · 18/06/2020 12:31

What does HTH mean 🧐

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/06/2020 12:37

'I couldn't get worked up about it' - well feck off the thread then!!

Or those ones where someone's teenager has done something quite honestly appalling but the OP gets piled on for punishing them in any way.

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 18/06/2020 12:39

Can't believe no one's said reverse yet.

My pet peeve is the gazillion posters who just basically rewrite and parrot what the first 3 or 4 posters on a thread say.

Evasmummy2019 your thread was awful. I had to stop reading it.

00100001 · 18/06/2020 12:40

HTH means Hope That Helps

00100001 · 18/06/2020 12:43

People adding unhelpful comments. Like INA thread about "is this parrot t-shirt for a boy or girl"

And most people will comment boy/girl/both

Some tosser will come along and go "does it matter? They're just clothes! I don't see gender in clothing! I out my son in a pink frilly fairy outfit! "
