Do think hours will be cut for those lucky enough to keep their jobs?

do you think once the furlough scheme ends those lucky enough to keep their jobs will be put on part time hours for a period maybe up to 6-12 months or have their hours reduced I.e. Max 4 days week paid instead of their usual 5 days.

Not too sound doom and gloom but it seems like for the next few years at least financially most people will be worse off (losing jobs, reduced hours, pensions cut, less jobs being advertised etc...)

How do you see your family being affected?

My sister works for a large company and is due to come off Furlough at the end of the months.

She has been 'asked' to take a pay drop to 70% of her salary for 6 months and still work her normal, full time hours.

DH has been working 4 days a week for the last 2.5 months for 80% pay - cross company policy. This is only supposed to be a 3 month measure, but we both fully expect it to be extended.

Not where I work (hospitality industry). We will be taking staff on, not sacking anyone or reducing hours.

TreacherousPissFlap · 17/06/2020 17:21

Not for me as am fortunate to work in a secure job. There's no way we will be going anywhere
DH only works 3 days and is quite specifically trained. He's back to work now and appears busy, only time will tell if this continues.

I expect my hours to increase but my pay to stay the same.

Unlikely, possible in a few niche positions, but for positions which are currently full time it's inefficient for a company to employ more people on part time hours when there's the strong likelihood that recruitment when/if a return to previous work is there.

Also of course moving everyone to 4 day weeks risks you losing your best staff who don't want the pay cut and can get one of the jobs elsewhere. It's better to get rid of your most disposable staff straight away, and keep the most valuable at full pay so they don't decide to leave.

Nah. Everyone will be on 80% salaries working 100% hours. It's happening already 'furloughed' staff are still being asked to work and the ones left behind are working twice as hard than ever.
