Carpet cleaning machines

I have decided I need to buy a carpet cleaner. I have a light coloured carpet and two small DC, and it's driving me insane.

Any recommendations? Been looking at Bissell and Vax but so many conflicting reviews.

our carpet needs doing i was thinking of hiring one of the rug doctors from Tesco. we had a Bissell one and it was good just wore out in the end

@labazsisgoingmad I was going to do the same then I looked at costs and thought for the price compared with buying a vax or a bissell, I may as well buy.

Are the rug doctors good?

I bought a Bissell carpet cleaner 4/5 years ago and it has saved our skin on many occasions, wine, paint, bodily fluids Confused probably use it about 4 times a year and always thankful to have it!

@byvirtue have you ever tried it on slime/playdoh? Grin

Ha ha we’re at the play doh stage but not slime yet and we only do play doh in the kitchen so haven’t had to test it.....yet!!

It is good on makeup when they rub that into the carpet Envy

I bought a portable rug doctor with pet appliances 2 weeks ago. I liked it and it left the carpets almost dry however it broke within 24 hours. I exchanged it for an upright vax cleaner (the pet one) costing £130 and I’m very happy with it, it does leave the carpets slightly damp but they dry quickly.

I own a vax , the orange tub type rather than upright. I really live the power dide of it , the fact that the suction is adjustable ( both when wet and dry sucking ) it comes with a upholstery attachment. Which is good for the stairs .
But it is heavy and cleaning the stairs is hard going.
I have used rug doc too ( at work ) they are good but you can not get under furniture at all . And it is impossible to use on stairs

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I did wonder if the rug doctor might be a bit chunky for ease of movement.

Weighing up vax and bissell still! Gosh it's sad that I'm getting excited about clean carpets Grin

I bought a Vax (dual power pet advance)... Used it once and was incredibly unimpressed, didn't seem to make any difference on either carpet or sofa, and it literally took a week to dry properly.

Maybe I was using it wrong or something, it had great reviews on Amazon Confused
