Where can I buy small dinner plates?

Currently got some bog standard ones from Ikea (27cm) but would really like some smaller ones as trying to make an attempt to reduce portion sizes, and I think it would be easier with a smaller plate. After something bigger than a side plate, but smaller than my current dinner plates and struggling to find any! Thanks :)

Just bought some smaller ones for DC and we found plenty of choices on Amazon.

Denny do them, possibly called tea plates?

WisestIsShe · 16/06/2020 19:20

I think you need to search "breakfast plate". That's what we call the smaller plate between sort plate and dinner plate size.

Portmeirion/Spode have lots of discounts on at the moment and they do a huge variety of different sized plates.

We use the medium Denby plates for portion control purposes

Have a search for luncheon plates, they’re around 9” so the step between side plate and dinner plate.

40somethingJBJ · 16/06/2020 19:28

I didn’t even think of Denby and I don’t live far from there. I’ll have a look at all these suggestions, thanks :)

Often called dessert or salad plates, they’re a very useful size of plate.

NCforthisMarch · 16/06/2020 21:06

Older china came with smaller plates, my friend has a huge number of mis-matched ancient plates, we can usually find quite small when needing to think thin portions.

Elouera · 16/06/2020 22:34

You might even find Tesco, asda or Sainsburys do them! I got very reasonable ones from one of these a few years back. I then bought a nice denby set, BUT, they are marginally larger and the cupboard door is ever so slightly ajar now and not flush with the others- which I find incredibly annoying, despite measuring the cupboards!

Tesco vouchers can be exchanged for denby, so if you have those, check it out too.

Zisforstripyoss · 16/06/2020 23:09

I have some from dunelm for the DC. I can't tell which ones they are on the website, they look similar to a lot of others! Not helpful I know, but you could have a look if you were passing.

TheLightGetsIn · 16/06/2020 23:43

I know you've bought some now, but I just came on to agree with a PP about vintage dinner plates! We inherited a couple of different dinner services from grandparents and the plates are all miniscule in comparison with our modern ones!

Through the Depression of the 1930s, the rationing during the war years of the 1940s, and beyond into the deprivation of the 1950s, and the low incomes of the 1960s, there was never very much food available, and that’s mirrored in the small plate size. No wonder the people were on average smaller too.

Gingerkittykat · 17/06/2020 00:11

The cheapest plate range from Ikea are smaller plates, bowls and side plates. They are only 50p each but still really nicely made, a lot nicer than a lot of more expensive ones I have had.

I have Denby salad plates they are a nice size. X
