I would like a freezer in my garage. Is a chest or upright better. There are only the 2 of us.
Thanks for your help.

Imo a chest freezer is waaay better!

I have had both and swapped to purely chest freezers about 12 years ago. I presently have 2 in my garage. 😁

Depends what you need to store. If batch cooking etc then upright makes things easier to find. Chest freezers need a bit more organising but are more practical if you are the kind of person who will buy half a lamb from the farm shop.

I think chest freezers are recommended for garages due To temperature changes

Beko make upright freezers specifically for garages and outbuildings, have a look online at John Lewis.

Totally depends how you cook / store and how organised you are.

We have a chest freezer, I find it stores waaay more than an upright, with only a little extra space, although you can get smaller ones, which still hold more.

We do a little bit of batch cooking. Have very little boxes of food - just basics of chicken pieces and fish. It also has a little basket that hooks over for all the veg bags.

But the main bulk is bulk buying, all separated in portions then stacked according to type, so you just grab the top bag of whatever you fancy.

It does require 'stock rotation', to avoid things being doomed forever at the bottom of the freezer. After a bulk buy, much of it gets pulled out and the new meats put at the bottom.

Good organisation avoids things getting lost and having to move loads to get anything out.

However, if you store lots of variety, its depth is it's down side. Things have to go on top of one another. And once you run out of the bottom you have to stack up. I'd say if you batch cook lots of the same, it's not an issue, mini towers of curry, bolognese etc. are fine, but once you have more dishes that space at the bottom of the freezer then it might get confusing.

Definitely upright if you just want a more convenient and larger version of the kitchen freezer.

Only get a chest if you batch cook or buy lots of huge meat portions, or very large amounts because it's cheaper that way.

We had a huge chest freezer and there were things at the bottom 10 years old. Could have kept a body in it. Could even have lost that.
