Toast: an edible plate or the main event?

Now I know that a thick crusty piece of toast served warm with lashings of melting butter is a thing of glory but due to my dairy free diet it's just not the same with a layer of soya spread. But, what is your view on toast? DP has the thinnest scraping of topping on it. I love piling on the toppings, they should be at least as thick as the toast itself. What's your view? A carrier for delicious sweet or savoury foodstuff or is the topping just an enhancement to a yeasty doughy treat?

Either can good tbf. But mostly thick toppings!

Thick peanut butter, banana slices, honey 👍

Loads of butter and a scraping of marmite 👍

Thick slices of cheese and pickle 👍

Thick layer of full fat cream cheese with cucumber slices, salt and pepper

Man I need toast now

Jo, I am glad you are in the marmite camp. I didn't want to introduce that too soon but am with you. Banana slices are great, but mashed banana and brown sugar is pure comfort food.

Loads of butter but only a smear of the topping for me. I don’t like beans on the toast, the toast has to be on the side!

Oh Brie, toast soggy with bean juice is one of the great pleasures in life!

Either lashings of butter (none of that butter-like spread!) or thick toppings. Especially paté. Grin
