Toast: an edible plate or the main event?

Now I know that a thick crusty piece of toast served warm with lashings of melting butter is a thing of glory but due to my dairy free diet it's just not the same with a layer of soya spread. But, what is your view on toast? DP has the thinnest scraping of topping on it. I love piling on the toppings, they should be at least as thick as the toast itself. What's your view? A carrier for delicious sweet or savoury foodstuff or is the topping just an enhancement to a yeasty doughy treat?

Either can good tbf. But mostly thick toppings!

Thick peanut butter, banana slices, honey 👍

Loads of butter and a scraping of marmite 👍

Thick slices of cheese and pickle 👍

Thick layer of full fat cream cheese with cucumber slices, salt and pepper

Man I need toast now

Jo, I am glad you are in the marmite camp. I didn't want to introduce that too soon but am with you. Banana slices are great, but mashed banana and brown sugar is pure comfort food.

Loads of butter but only a smear of the topping for me. I don’t like beans on the toast, the toast has to be on the side!

Either lashings of butter (none of that butter-like spread!) or thick toppings. Especially paté. Grin
