Alcohol detox

I have to deal with this this afternoon as someone I know appears to be addicted.

So is the best thing to do is put my foot down and insist on medical detox? (Alongside other supporting mechanisms of course).

Not in a good state. Not sure how to handle this best and would appreciate experiences from people who have had similar.

Unfortunately you cannot do anything, they have to want to do it. Until they reach that point putting your foot down won't mean anything.

The three Cs :

You didn't cause it
You cannot cure it
You cannot control it

Do they want help?

It is dangerous to cold turkey off alcohol, seizures can be fatal.

Contact your local Recovery service for support & advice.

You could accompany them to a GP appointment. Some GPs will prescribe Chlordiozepoxide for use at home With Support. Some will refer for in patient detox.

To remain abstinent, they will need psycho-social support plus possibly a prescription for Acamprosate after the physical detox.

People in early Recovery are very high maintenance, please be careful what you are prepared to take on.

I know because I am one. Feel free to PM me

Oh, & contact Al Anon, and/ or Adult Children of Alcoholics

Good luck
