I live in the centre village of a reasonably small town with a reasonably small primark.
Having just taken DD to het first day back to yr6 I had to walk past primark. I kid you not, the queue snaked about about 500 yards around the corner of the precinct.

Are people really unaware that Asda, just up the road sells cheap knickers too?

Honestly flabbergasted.

As long as everyone is behaving responsibly, just see it as them helping the economy grow.

People are nuts. I hope the staff can stay safe.

Presumably the same fuckwits who queued around the block for Costa and McDonalds when they reopened...

It’s been possible to buy clothes all through lockdown. Most places never closed their online outlets, and obviously there’s ASOS.

I understand re the economy but as primark doesn't sell anything particularly exclusive which can't be had for roughly the same price elsewhere the queue just seemed massively disproportionate.
One of the shop workers was outside directing the people around the corner so that they didn't spill in to the road.
Almost nobody was wearing masks.

Can they get in without masks?

theonlywayisapple · 15/06/2020 10:08

Masks aren't compulsory though

HotSince82 · 15/06/2020 10:09

I presume so, I didn't see anybody being turned away although I didn't really stop to check.

I won't be stepping foot in there, mask or not. I hope the staff are provisioned with adequate PPE.

Yes I'm aware, however they are at the very least advisable given the size of the queue.
Or at least a face covering.

My borough has been disproprtionately effected by Covid, I would have thought this may have informed people taking precautions. Sadly not.

Maybe it's more about trying to get a little bit of normal back rather than buying cheap knickers that you can also get from Asda.

Perhaps just the thought of being able to go to a shop that has previously been classed as non essential that gives them a glimmer of hope of returning to our previous joys even if it does mean queuing for half the day?
