Pelvic Gridle Pains

KJGo7 · 14/06/2020 16:18

Im coming up 30 weeks pregnant and suffering with pelvic gridle pains.
The pain in my hips, lower bsck and 'bits' are getting worse as the weeks are going on.
Ive been reffered to physio but due to Covid 19 they are only doing phone appointments. I have been doing the exercises i was recommended but they arent helping.

Has anyone got any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance!

Get a support belt.
Ask your physio for recommendations, or check them out online.
I was given one by my physio, but ended up on crutches by 30 weeks anyway.

Go up stairs, slowly. Both feet onto the step, before going up a step. Don't push a shopping trolley. Don't carry a bag on one shoulder. Use a body/pregnancy pillow at night, that is long enough to go between your knees.

And hope it does ease off once baby arrives. Mine did first time around, relief straight after the birth. My second is now 14 months old, (after a 9 year age gap) and I am still having issues.

Everything Natasha said plus no hoovering. Be careful getting in and out of cars. Try to keep your knees together - sit down then swing both feet round into the car together.

I ordered my support belt off amazon and wore it whenever standing or waking - helped loads. Good luck!

I also liked sitting on my birthing ball.

No shopping trolleys
No lifting of anything

For me it was about 'bracing' my pelvis before I did anything strenuous. I could happily sit with cross legs because my hips were relaxed, but if any sort of effort was involved then I'd try to lock my pelvis by tightening my bottoms and thighs. Eventually this gave me muscle problems in my butt, but you do what you have to!

Crutches also helped my take some weight off my pelvis when walking.

Amazing thankyou everyone, got my ball out to already!
Looks like the hisband is going to have to do all the house work from now on!

Definitely all the advice above plus do not try to push through pain. If anything hurts then stop.
Unfortunately I still get slight pains and my you get is 5 Sad
I did have to have c sections with both which i dont think helped in the long run and obviously my stomach muscles are fucked since then even though I gym 5 times a week.

If a support belt is too uncomfortable (I couldn't bear it) you can also use physio tape to support bump - how to videos on YouTube.

Do not stand on one leg when getting dressed etc.

Sit on a plastic bag in car to help with swivelling in and out - can also do this in bed.

Rest! It's unlikely to get better until baby is born, but it can quickly get worse if you are not careful.

booearing · 14/06/2020 20:03

Don't push through the pain
Physio gave me crutches and a tens machine
I couldn't use a birthing ball it hurt me too much
Also a band didn't help me but I know it does for others
Try and keep your knees together whilst turning in bed
Rest as much as you can
I had to use crutches until I gave birth and I was induced at 37 weeks because of it
I hobbled in on crutches and was able to walk without them a few days after giving birth
And I really feel for you it's horrible and I was told it probably get worse if I had another baby
I had another baby and I got a few twinges but nothing like the previous pregnancy.

KJGo7 · 14/06/2020 20:57

Really appreciate everything!

I will carry on what i am doing, and i will try and get in touch with physio tomorrow to talk about other options.

Only thing that helped me was Accupincture it was amazing! I got it free on the NHS x

HappyAsASandboy · 15/06/2020 17:35

Good luck with rest of your pregnancy and birth, and have hope that all the pelvic pain will go once you've delivered.

I hobbled on crutches (literally hobbled no more than 50m at a time for two months before birth) and was wheeled to theatre because it was too far for me to manage on the crutches! I was out of bed and getting washed/changed four hours after my c section with no need for crutches at all. Didn't use them at all post birth :)

Good luck!

Aw wow amazing! Hopefully it will go straight away!
