Trump's health

There's been a lot of talk about Donald Trump's health ever since he was elected, with suggestions he's suffering from dementia or some other health issue affecting judgement, inhibitions, speech etc. Now TrumpIsUnwell is trending on Twitter and there is a video showing him unable to lift a glass of water to his mouth with one hand:
twitter.com/atrupar/status/1271820635040362497?s=20

There's also footage from the same event of him struggling to descend a ramp, abut I think the water is the more interesting thing as it does look like someone who is having issues with coordination or range of movement in one of his arms.

If he has had a stroke or been diagnosed with something, are they legally obliged to inform the public? I know he goes for his 'health checks', but what is the protocol for medical issues outside of those? Does anyone know?

I've also long found his posture really curious too, the way he leans forward at an angle when standing a lot. It doesn't look like a natural way to stand. I know that's specifically a symptom of frontotemporal dementia (abnormal posture/gait) but also wondering it's indicative of anything else. And I'm interested in what kinds of checks and balances are in place when someone is in a position of power and exhibiting signs of a degenerative disorder or condition.

What would happen here in the same situation? A vote of no confidence unless the individual got independently checked?

Something is going on
I saw the clip of him trying to drink water Something is not right There.

It seems to me that behind the scenes he’s given some fairly complicated information in a very basic form and then when he’s in public can’t remember that information
So ‘fills in’ with whatever comes to mind first

  • hence the disinfectant/ heating people up comments

I don’t like him but I hope he has doctors behind him to get him diagnosed and Medicated as needed ( or make him step down)

Blankspace4 · 14/06/2020 13:56

I also don’t think he’s a well man. A stroke, dementia, maybe other things. All speculation of course and because he will view it as a personal weakness to be ill we’ll probably not know the truth.

It does scare me having someone so erratic and unpredictable in charge of the US though. Fingers crossed for this November’s election.

Frontertamporal (?) Dementia has been mentioned.

As has teriary syphillis 🤢

ScarfLadysBag · 14/06/2020 13:59

This is interesting: medium.com/@quantazelle/trumps-frontotemporal-dementia-and-the-2020-state-of-the-union-address-part-1-10dbc4e68847

It shows how chaperoned he is in public spaces and how disoriented he gets if left to his own devices (randomly wandering out from behind the bulletproof glass or just looking like he has no idea where he is).

He released a tweet about the ramp (unfortunately without video) saying that he was walking down a steep wet ramp without a hand rail. Didn't want to fall.

ScarfLadysBag · 14/06/2020 14:27

Here's the ramp video: twitter.com/ProjectLincoln/status/1271916479206825984?s=20

Taken in isolation it's not that damning, really, as could be various reasons he's so cautious, but given the water thing and all the other evidence that something is not right, it just adds to the 'dossier'.

Also ironically in his tweet he says: 'The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is “fall” for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!'

But several years prior wrote a tweet mocking Obama's bouncy method of walking down a ramp! Grin

A problem with his hand could indicate something like Parkinson's.

DonaldJTrumpet · 14/06/2020 14:35

Someone has put the rocky theme to it! Ha!

I don't know, it doesn't seem too bad. The man next to him is a little uncertain too.

The one where they exit the plane looks like they are both unsteady.

The water one is scary and there are some where he slurs so much. Regardless of health issues there is something wrong with him and he needs to pushed out!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 14/06/2020 15:28

Rumour has it he wears a girdle and shoe lifts which make his gait even worse.

lljkk · 14/06/2020 17:06

The slow ramp descent (he's always slow off of AF1, too) I reckon is due to the lifts in his shoes. Everyone reckons at least 1 inch, so he's pitched forward.

Why he can salute with his rt hand but not hold a glass to his lips - I have no idea. I suppose I could find a little pity for his ugly opinions & selfish corrupt values if they seemed only recent & neurological... but they don't. He's been an unpleasant person his whole life.

Surely any president, esp one over a certain age gets very regular check ups, you would think? Then again, doctors over here left Boris purple, blotchy and gasping for breath for a few days before carting him off to hospital...

SimonJT · 14/06/2020 17:21

It is fairly common for men of his age to have poor mobility, limb weakness, tremors etc. If it was our own grandad we wouldn’t find it sinister, just a normal part of the aging process.

He is still a wanker obviously. But if he was a liked president and there would probably be less fuss about his health.

KonTikki · 14/06/2020 17:27

Churchill suffered a heart attack and was bed bound for a couple of weeks during the war. The public were not informed for reasons of morale, and no legal reason why they needed to be.
Although it may raise morale in the US if they were made aware of Trump failing !

iwilltaketwoplease · 14/06/2020 17:27

The water is odd but the ramp walk doesn't look that concerning.

CherryValanc · 14/06/2020 17:33

I've seen both and want sure what I was supposed to make of the ramp one. It was just him walking down a ramp. (I think anyone in the public eye is cautious on ramps/stairs- imagine if he fell - the comedy people would make of it.)

But the water one isn't something you can easily explain as something standard. It's a movement not unusual to a person with motor difficulties.

Topseyt · 14/06/2020 17:35

He has always seemed uncoordinated and inarticulate to me, but I still wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there is something else going on.

Whatever it is, he still remains an arse of the highest order.

ragged · 14/06/2020 22:17

ok, humour me...
I've killed half an hour watching DT go on/off airforce one & marine one (the helicopter)
Since 2018 DT consistently descends from AF1 using his left hand to grip the rail, and consistently ascends using his right hand. So he likes being further from the nose?

Alternative theory: Descent is the more dangerous journey, so he purposely uses his stronger firmer hand. Ascent he reverts to his dominant hand (right) since he's not so worried about falling. Is my theory.
Back in 2017 DT had a lot more bounce to his gait on/off, and used any hand to ascend/descend AF1.

Melania takes the other AF1 rail if she's with him, else she usually uses the right, or none at all.

On/off Marine1 steps they both almost always use the right rail.

After the West Point address he was forced to use his weak hand (right) for a descent. Hence the great caution.

Shannith · 14/06/2020 22:39

That water looks how I used to get with the DTs. Not the DonaldTrumps, the other kind

Might explain a lot.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 14/06/2020 23:01

He's grossly overweight, over 70, and wears lifts. I'm pretty sure his eyesight is fucked as well.

Cruddles · 14/06/2020 23:18

Whatever it is i hope causes him a long and painful death. I know that's a horrible thing to say about someone but he doesn't have a good bone in his body

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 14/06/2020 23:23

the drink looks like he has a bad shoulder or his suit is too tight.

bellabelly · 14/06/2020 23:26

Doesn't he have a fear of ramps? I'm pretty sure I remember Theresa May (when she was PM - how long ago that feels!) taking his arm or holding his hand going down a ramp together and it was commented on at the time.

bellabelly · 14/06/2020 23:28

There's a video link towards the end of this Guardian article holding hands awkwardly...
