I don't want to waste money on things that won't get used, but this is what we have decided to buy so please if any of it sounds crap for a one year old let me know!

• DIY tool bench wooden
• Wheelybug
• Megabloks
• Bath toys
• Pull along telephone fisher price
• Aquadoodle Mat

Do they all sound like good presents? We've not bought any new toys in over 6 months so it's mainly just an excuse to get some. I know he won't remember or anything like that.

IME tool bench is always a complete waste of space and money. Also, at one he's probably a bit young for that kind of pretend play. Maybe wait for Christmas and go for a kitchen, they always seem to be more popular (I think because they know what a kitchen is and want to role play what they see you doing).

Duplo is better than megablock imo.

Aquadoodle, bath toys and wheelybug always winners IME.

Thanks Nuffsaid. We were originally thinking of a kitchen so will switch the tool bench for that. Will look at Duplo now. Appreciate it!

I agree with duplo over megablocs. There’s so many sets that can be added as they get older. It’s been used everyday here from 1 - 5. Theres endless scope for imaginative play with it.

Also agree about toolbench. They take up space and it’s 50/50 whether they’ll be that taken with it once the initial novelty wears off. What went down very well here was a cheap high vis jacket off amazon, a hard hat and a basic toy tool set. They were happy to be builders for years with that combination.

I don’t think whether he will remember this stuff is a factor really. Play is what children do to find out and make sense of the world around them and these are their ‘tools’ as it were. They sound really great for his age with a lot of scope for different types of play.

Also the Duplo blocks interlock with the proper Lego blocks. Useful when they're at the in-between stage!

Get spare aqua doodle pens.
