Nappies

Just out of interest.... how many nappies do you get through a day?

My son is 4 months old and we basically have to buy a new pack every other day. He's brilliant at letting us know when he's done a wee or poo!

It gets very expensive haha

Around 7-8 per day.

Baby only 1 month old so changing overnight at least once usually as well still. We use reusables because i couldn't be bothered to constantly remember to buy more. We have 15 all in one nappies for daytime, and 4 overnight nappies. Thats plenty to allow wearing, washing and drying.

ttigerlilly · 14/06/2020 11:34

@Caspianberg I have been looking at investing in reusables for both cost and environmental reasons. Do you have a recommendation?

@ttigerlilly - we are using the tots bots range. The easyfit stars daytime, and bamboozles at night.
Im really happy with them. Just lob in machine each morning on 60 with other baby dirty gubbings like muslins, sleepsuits, vests, the wipes etc and they have all come out non stained and clean so far.
Its early days, but he's never had any nappy rash, and no leaks or poo explosions so far.

I use terry squares and they are by far the cheapest.

I'm surprised more mums don't use them, they are easy to wash, quick to dry and fit all sizes.

ComeOnEileen11 · 14/06/2020 14:07

Also reusables here.

4-5 all in one reusables for toddler (Bambino mios), 1 little lamb night nappy.

7-8 lollipop bamboos (2 part) for newborn. She'll go into Mio solos when she's bigger.

ComeOnEileen11 · 14/06/2020 14:08

@Woodentopper what's the absorbancy like for older ones please? I have a few pre folds for newborn for emergencies but haven't needed them yet.

Woodentopper · 14/06/2020 14:26

They are super absorbent, I have lots of 60cm standard terry squares and some 70cm ones for overnight or when going out.

The can be used 2 at a time for extra absorbency and folded different ways to suit the size of your child.

How old is LO?

IsItBiggerThanTheBoxItsIn · 14/06/2020 14:35

I think we go through about 5 nappies. DD is 2 years 3 months old. We used cloth nappies from 3 weeks to 2 years. Started using a mix of disposable and cloth now because I cant get the waterproof wraps in a big enough size! Saved a fortune though.

mylittlesandwich · 14/06/2020 14:37

We use about 6ish. DS is 6 months.

ComeOnEileen11 · 14/06/2020 14:49

@Woodentopper my toddler is 2 and a bit, but he's only small. 18-24 trousers only stay up because of his nappies.

Which wraps do you use? I have some little bloom pockets which I'm not using, presumably I could stuff a pocket with a terry? Otherwise I would only have my little lamb wraps which are pretty big generally and I would think, would have too much room for a Terry to move around?

BessMarvin · 14/06/2020 15:15

My 8mo has usually 4 nappies a day and one at night.

We use reusable nappies during the day. I like Bambinex bamboo ones with petit lulu or Rumparooz wraps.

Also like motherease wizard unos and duos but these can be harder to get hold of.

ttigerlilly · 14/06/2020 15:33

Thank you for your responses. Based on your replies I absolutely must invest in some reusables... my little one gets through nappies ever so quickly and there are definitely more cost-effective options available!

@ttigerlilly are you changing him after every wee? We use disposables and at that age would change after every poo or otherwise every few hours. No more than 7 or 8 a day.

ttigerlilly · 14/06/2020 15:46

@QforCucumber yes we do, he will wriggle and cry as soon as he has done a wee and he's happy again as soon as we change his nappy. I can't blame him for not wanting to sit in wee of course, I wouldn't want to either! We've tried a load of different brands to see if it was just poor absorbency but it's the same with every brand we have tried. I do wonder if he just wees a lot more often, I have a phone appt with HV tomorrow so I will ask her about it. I hope I'm just worrying about nothing as he's my only child and I am still quite inexperienced! I just wanted to get an insight from other people Smile

It might be worth mentioning though that he is a very hungry boy, and is already too big for 6-9 month clothes so he's also growing very very fast. He also has sensitive skin. So this might be an explanation

BessMarvin · 14/06/2020 19:48

Maybe have a look at reusable fleece liners too, I think they are supposed to help keep wet away from the skin.
