9 wk old slept 9 hrs and virtually dry nappy.

Should I be worried or celebrating?

DD is 9 weeks old and slept solidly from 8pm to 5am. When I went to change her nappy just now it was virtually dry.

She is wide awake and smiling now and has had a good feed.

Sleeping through I am of course happy with but the dry nappy was unexpected. Is that something I should be concerned about?

It’s unusual but if she is awake, happy and feeding then I wouldn’t worry too much yet. If she is still dry in another two hours, after that big feed, I’d be seeking some advice (health visitor?)

I think I would only be worried if she didn't have a wet nappy a little while after the morning feed.

Thanks. That is my instinct too. The GP said she was advanced at her 8 wk check but I wasn't expecting her to be dry at night for another couple of years at least!

My DS is 9 weeks old. I’ve just changed his nappy at 5am from 9pm and it’s barely wet. This includes a feed at 3am This is quite normal for him. By 7/8am it will be wet after a good feed. I think when He sleeps heavily he barely pees. When he’s sleeping lighter he pees more. Bit like me!

If you look into elimination communication (ec) they say that even babies don't wee in their sleep. The reason they wake up wet is because they wee when they wake up in the night whether this is a brief wake up and self settle or a longer wake requiring help to get back to sleep.

I'm not sure because I think DS2 does wee in his sleep, but DS1 was a dry at night baby. Never had to do any night potty training, could take nappies of at night as soon as he was dry in the day.

Wait and see if she has a wet nappy after being fed if not then I would be concerned too.

DD1 always had emptyish diapers in the morning, majority of days. Even waking up at night.

DD2 not really.

Guess it depends

Big wet nappy just now so all is well. It's handy if she is not going to be a big wetter at night as we use cloth nappies and they don't have the same containment as disposables.
