If you have gone from being completely inactive to fit, how did you do it?

I'm curious. I'm not asking people who've always been sporty / good at and enjoy team games / enjoy fitness, either.

I'm talking to My People - the two left feet, uncoordinated, 'Ugh, sports day, I'm going to sit down here and make a daisy chain ah shit they've seen me' people.

I really need to get fit. I used to walk a lot and got away with it because I was in my 20s, but after a baby and in my 30s I need to sort it out. Anyone like me managed to become fit? How'd you do it?

@Shannith brilliant! I'll look up the Adrienne Equestrian yoga! Prob the best thing I could do for my horse! Thank You 😊

@OldSpeclkledHen do it, really.

I can't believe how much difference it's made. I could barely do it at all when I started about 2 months ago. Still find the legs in the air thing impossible but everyone who has seen me ride (couldn't during lockdown) has commented that I'm riding considerably better.

Mostly in tones of mild to moderate surprise and probably damning me with faint praise, but I'm not proud, I'll take anything. Smile

Dressage diva yard manager even asked me to send her a link!

I don't know why I'm always so amazed that doing something consistently as recommended by experts in their fields works. It does. Who knew? Everyone else it seems.

Although I've always been slim, I was always very unfit! Couldn't run or do any cardio for more than a couple of minutes.

I joined a gym and spent a month trying loads of classes then found the ones that I liked best. I make a timetable every week and stick to it. 3 classes a week. Then I started lifting weights and added in two weight sessions a week, one of them was with a PT.

In spite of my PT telling me I was getting fitter I didn't believe him until I tried running 5k for fun and managed it in a very decent time.

Consistency is key. Do something you like and stick to it. One day you'll notice it's easier. Eat well but have an occasional treat and get lots of water and sleep.

Start small, something you like- do it
Next day, do it more

I am your people.

I got to the heaviest I’ve ever been, crying if I saw photos of myself. Started healthy eating and a friend of mine just trained to be a yoga teacher in Sri Lanka prior to lock down.
She asked if she could do a demo lesson with me on zoom.
I dreaded it but went along with it and - fell in love with it. I started doing yoga and planned to do it 3-4x a week, found own your goals by Davina on google and signed up for a trial.
I’m now doing a workout every day, a mix of yoga, strength and basic keep fit, I’ve even done a hiit session!
And even more bizarrely, I’m enjoying it!

I did my first day of C25K today. I hope I can walk tomorrow as I have dodgy hips that need strengthening.
