Hypnosis for Anxiety?

ZiggZagg · 13/06/2020 16:03

Hi

Have terrible anxiety, really impacting on my work and decision making. I am currently taking Citalopram and Propanalol to manage but wanted to see if anyone has tried hypnosis?

I mean it's seems so simple to think you could just go under and someone tell your brain not to be anxious anymore.

Has anyone tried it and had a positive outcome?

Thanks

I used to treat people - anxiety can be treated successfully. Have you seen a doctor / therapist?

No just looking into it at the moment.

But the doctor will have written the prescription - did they not discuss talking therapies?

Actually - have you seen the Headspace app? It uses hypnotherapy techniques and people do find it helpful. There’s also a chap who does recordings - I will need to dig out his name.

I don’t know when therapists will be getting back to work - obviously a 1-2-1 session is best as a therapist will talk talk you before and then be watching your reactions and altering the treatment accordingly.

I found listening to this a great help and doing the exercise he suggests when I'm in an anxious situation.

@Lordfrontpaw Yes they have referred me to CBT I've done it before and it wasn't particularly helpful for me but I'm willing to try again. Thanks for the recommendation I will have a little look.

CBT isn’t for everyone - it’s good for trauma or PTSD. If you know what the anxiety is caused by/triggered by then that’s a good starting point.

Just had a difficult few years in work, work with lots of trauma and aggression and some family issues, I reckon just a build up of everything. I'm not an emotional or anxious person really, don't tend to talk about things and everything gets bottled up and I've just reached my limit iyswim?
