Do you think you can get a blood clot in your arse?

Random question I know. Right at the top of my leg, practically my bum I have an achy cramp type feeling. It feels bruised but there isn't a bruise and I haven't banged it or anything. It also really bloody hurts to touch. The pain has been getting worse all day in one area about the size of a 50 pence coin.
DH is trying to convince me it could be a blood clot (he had DVT last September). Help me calm the worrier down and tell me it's not possible to get a clot in your arse.

Late bump as it’s getting progressively more painful.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't to be honest. Can you call 111 for advice?

Lucked · 13/06/2020 17:54

Well a bruise is a blood clot, just not a dangerous one. A dangerous one is in a large deep vein. The symptoms you describe are not those of a DVT but I can’t tell you what it is or if it is serious. Could you be developing an abscess?

I get that pain sometimes. Usually I find it's muscular and eases off if I stretch my hamstrings.

Oldraver · 13/06/2020 18:21

Are you sure it isnt Sciatica ?

Bargebill19 · 13/06/2020 18:24

Snap! I was thinking sciatica too

MrsHalloumi · 13/06/2020 18:25

It’s really weird hurts just as if it would if you badly bruised yourself and hurts when pressed. But no changes to the skin. Started of as a mild pain but now it’s definitely not mild. It also hurts along an old scar so don’t know if that’s anything to worry about.

I had a haematoma on my arse last year. But that was a large bulge, you could definitely feel a vaguely squidgy bulge, and it looked a bit purpley.
I sincerely hope you haven’t got that - I had to have it surgically removed and then packed. Was bloody agony.

So if you start to feel a bulge, see a doctor ASAP!

LuluJakey1 · 13/06/2020 18:51

It sounds like an abscess to me. They can occur in old scar tissue and are VERY painful. I had one in my perineum and there were no external signs at all. Started as a bit of a dull ache and got worse. It was awful. A Dr didn't think it was anything serious, misdiagnosed it as a Bartholin's cyst, gave me antibiotics and over the next 3 days it got worse and worse and I ended up in hospital having it drained under GA. The packing was the size of a tangerine!

Bloops · 13/06/2020 18:51

Could be many things. I know someone who had an abscess around that area and had to have it surgically removed. Started off with a little pain then got so unbearable had to go to A&E!

MrsHalloumi · 13/06/2020 19:11

Ooh access sounds nasty. Could it be that without any obvious swelling/ redness? I will keep an eye on it anyway. Thanks.

I could be any of the things mentioned or something else entirely but with your history I would be careful and wouldn't take it for granted that it definitely won't be.

My mother has had three separate instances of dvt all far enough apart that she had stopped worrying as it felt behind her and wasn't taking warfarin anymore.

alexdgr8 · 13/06/2020 19:26

i would go to A&E. they are not so busy nowadays.
it could be a soft tissue infection, or a simple abcess but either way may need surgical intervention.
i would certainly want a medical opinion asap. it needs to be seen.
last year a neighbour of mine nearly died with unacted upon soft tissue infection. not our fault, we were already in A&E, ignored for hours. extremely traumatic, even as the onlooker.
of course, in all probability yours is nothing like that.
but there are several conditions that cannot be eased without acute intervention. better safe than sorry. and the pain itself is a warning sign. please go. and let us know how you get on. good luck.

sorry didnt mean to post twice.
cannot work the technology.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 13/06/2020 19:44

No idea what it could be but I hope your arse is okay, I suspect it will either disappear as quickly as it came or get worse quite quickly, I hope you wake up tomorrow and it's gone.

MrsHalloumi · 13/06/2020 20:28

@FabulouslyElegantTits thank you for the arse concern.
I’m going to wait and see what the lay of the land is tomorrow. If still as painful or worse will phone 111. Hopefully it will die down. Don’t fancy having to show a Doctor if I can avoid it.

Keep us updated! Fingers crossed it eases off :)

MrsHalloumi · 14/06/2020 11:13

It’s still painful today but only when I touch it. So my solution is to stop touching it. One of the veins in the top & back of my thigh looks raised and swollen. Think that could be causing the pain. I will see how it goes.

DH is happy that I keep getting him to look at my arse anyway. 😆
