School Uniform for little girls

My dd is starting school this year, I have all boys so have never had to buy a girls uniform

Could you tel me what your girls wear to school and a list of things I would need to get, don't know where to start: trousers, skirts, skorts, shorts, pinafores.

Trying to think of things that will be easy for her to get on and off by herself but also want her to look smart

Our school has amended its uniform policy for after the summer because of covid. Worth double checking. We're polos instead of shirts, no ties and no gym as the hall is being used as an extra class so outside exercise instead so no gym kit. No big school bags - just big enough to take work to and fro. No pencil cases or anything extra. Everything will be provided by school.

Go for the jersey trousers / skirts / pinafores - more comfy and easier to get on and off. Long socks are easier than tights. I also put mine in practical shoes, which came from the ‘boy’ side of the shop, but it can lead to teasing...

Pinafores over polo shirt was lovely and comfy for girls. No elastic waistband to try and tuck a shirt into.

We always liked the cheaper pinafores (usually in a 2-pack) at M&S with the zip down the front. We also liked the similar gingham M&S front zip dresses.

DD was adamant right from Reception that girls must have cardigans, not jumpers.

A friend gave us the (very useful) advice to only get one style of pinafore or dress - to avoid tantrums over which style to choose.

Get Velcro trainers from TU.com for PE lessons

98% of the girls at my sons school wear cardigans rather than jumpers. One in his class wears jumpers (hand me downs as she has two older brothers) and I actually think she looks smarter!

The vast majority of small girls wear pinafores and one heard Aldi do a good jersey two pack for a bargain price, but their event is only once a year so you have to keep your eyes open. Very few girls wear trousers although again I think they look very smart when they do. It depends what your child prefers I guess.

Most girls wear gingham dresses in summer although some have the gingham play suits and ones that are a gingham skirt with a white polo style top.

There definitely more choice for girls. My boy has trousers in winter and shorts in summer

I heard not one heard. I’m not the queen 😂

Asda do a great 2 in 1 dress if the uniform colours are grey? It’s a blouse/polo (both long and short sleeved attached to a pleated skirt and washes really easily. It’s perfect for tiny children changing quickly or those with any sensory problems as the material is soft.

Pinafores were the easiest for my narrow 4 year old. I had to take an H&M skirt in age 3-4 in about 3 inches so didn't fancy my chances in school uniform. She's still in 3-4 skinny jeans with the waist hoiked in from Primark at 5...

Don't get supermarket cardis with the stupid flower buttons. They were bloody difficult for me to do let alone DC!
