19yo ds is generally very self-sufficient, rather stand-offish, and tends to maintain his distance. He has climbed into bed with dh and me for snuggles, backscratches and chat. Such a pleasure Smile

What's giving you joy right now?

I'm really hoping you mean 9 year old? 😂

marriednotdead · 13/06/2020 09:48

That’s so lovely, rare joys are the best 😊

I’m meeting up with DD and GCs later, only the second time I’m seeing them since lockdown.

DS23 has barely left the house since March but he’s coming too. Usually he doesn’t make much effort to see anyone, can count on one hand how many times he’s visited his DSis in the last year so hasn’t spent much time at all with her youngest.

He came with me to —sort of— socially distance meet them in the park when it was allowed and it was so lovely to see them together.

My sister is a single parent so we're allowed to be a bubble!!! We're going over today to bubble in their new house. She moved the week before lockdown began, and we've not seen the new house yet. I'm so excited to see them!!! We haven't even been able to go and do socially distanced walks out anything because it's too far to go without access to toilets. But now we can be in her house because we're a bubble, we can go and see them!!! Did I mention I'm excited about this?

DonLewis · 13/06/2020 09:54

Ah, op, you could be describing my 16 yo ds. That's lovely!

My joy today is working on the schools overgrown allotment, to bring in back to glory ready for the new school year and the new children who will get to grow veggies on it. Happy days.

Leaving the house for the first time in 3 months and breaking shielding to go to an empty beach in the evening

We've just been to the tip

Nacknick · 13/06/2020 10:31

Oh @QueenCT that must have been lovely!

Camomila · 13/06/2020 10:34

Over lockdown my parents have built DS1 a little playground in their back garden. There's a climbing frame, a tree swing, and they've bought a big paddling pool. Next step is to make a sand/pebble area so he can play with his construction toys.

We've been there every sunny day since we've been allowed in gardens Smile

@HattieMid2

I'm really hoping you mean 9 year old? 😂

Why? What are you laughing at?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 13/06/2020 10:36

I was supposed to watch Carmen in March. I’d had it booked for over a year. Last night I rebooked tickets for another show. It’s not til April 2021 but it’s the first time I’ve felt hopeful enough to book tickets in the hope it will go ahead.

MayFayner · 13/06/2020 10:37

@bluerad I love a tip run! So freeing.

Love driving away with the empty boot.

EllaAlright · 13/06/2020 10:43

That’s lovely Dilbertian.

My youngest (3 year old ds) said out of the blue ‘I love you so much mummy’ and gave me a big bear hug.

JollyOldJune · 13/06/2020 11:03

PP, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a 19 year old still coming to their DPs for affection.

That is lovely OP. Smile My 10yo still calls me mummy. He still comes to me for hugs. I'd say that's a parenting win!

Skintalways · 13/06/2020 11:06

My 19 year old is the same but now and again he plops down on my knee for cuddles. Nearly kills me he's huge but I love it so much, nothing wrong with that!

Kalim8 · 13/06/2020 11:40

I went for a walk in the rain. It was all green and silver, I chuckled to myself as I must have looked utterly saturated and bedraggled. Got home, changed into dry clothes and had a huge mug of coffee and 2 teacakes with chocolate spread for breakfast. Mmmmmm.

sparkli · 13/06/2020 12:40

Just lovely OP! And a great thread Smile

We had a trip to the beach yesterday, just DH and I with the dog. A regular weekend occurrence normally, but we haven't been since before lockdown as we are in Scotland and it's too far for exercise. My mental health was suffering so we went. A wee paddle, sandblasted faces, sandy toes, plus an impromptu m&s car picnic watching the surfers really has helped my mood. DH even bought a bottle of prosecco for me as a surprise. This necessitated a nature wee on the drive home, but we won't think about that Grin

Thighdentitycrisis · 13/06/2020 12:52

DS 25 told me he loved me, by text. Don’t think I’ve heard that since he was 3 or 4,
That warmed my cockles

Dilbertian · 13/06/2020 19:07

Hope you've all had more love and happiness today. Reading this thread has made me smile, and the picture of the sea is so lovely and tranquil that I've saved it to enjoy again.

What a lovely thread :) thank you OP for starting. Mine was seeing our beautiful little border terrier off the lead on a forest walk this week. Over two hours of just prancing about, popping back to see us and then off again, he looked so free and happy. I'm 8 months pregnant so gave some real head space and time to be very grateful
:) xxx

bloodywhitecat · 13/06/2020 19:58

Watching our 7 month old baby play with the same activity arch as our 7 week old (we foster) was laying under and seeing the younger baby move their eyes in response to one of the toys swinging. The younger baby has suffered a significant bleed on the brain and has damage to both retinas but I am as sure as I can be that he saw the toy move.

CoronaIsShit · 13/06/2020 20:05

Youngest DS and I shared the first perfectly ripe cherry from our cherry tree this afternoon 6 years after it was planted. We dithered all day as to when to pick it Grin and it tasted amazing. 17 more to look forward to!

We have also have tonnes of strawberries and raspberries that the DC pick fresh each morning, blueberry bushes are weighed down with berries, all our veg is growing wonderfully and we got the first flower on one of our first ever grown courgette plants today as well.

We don’t normally ‘garden’ but we did this year due to lockdown and it’s so nice to go out in the morning and investigate how everything’s growing.
