Who's going to the shops on Monday?

Curious whether town will be full or still really quiet? Is everyone ready for some shopping or will the queues put people off going?

It goes without saying that it will be manically busy. Worse than Black Friday or Boxing Day sales

Burgundy1844 · 13/06/2020 08:19

A lot of retailers are desperate so I’m sure there will be plenty of bargains

MamaGothel · 13/06/2020 08:21

I'm going to give it at least a week, I think it's going to be packed

AuntieMarys · 13/06/2020 08:22

Not me. I shop mainly online anyway. Only go to town if I can have a decent coffee and lunch too...and that's not happening at the moment.
I will go when John Lewis opens as I have about £500 of vouchers to spend

moregherkinsplease · 13/06/2020 08:23

The threads over on the coronavirus forum seem to be full posters saying the queues are putting them off and they still don't feel safe going!

I think we will be going, desperate for a good look round the clothes shops!

I'm getting my daughter Monday so will happily be avoiding shops

ClashCityRocker · 13/06/2020 08:29

I'm going to have to - I charity shopped/chucked all my summer clothes last autumn as I'd lost weight (much of it back on again!) so have literally nothing to wear 😩

I suppose I could have done it online but much prefer being able to look in real life.

Macarena1990 · 13/06/2020 08:31

I am! Not bothered about the queues - just looking forward to doing something outside of these 4 walls

Me too! Got a couple of bits online but the fit wasn't right so ended up returning them. Donyou think queuing will deter people though? 20 min wait to get in somewhere like john lewis or topshop or wherever?

A few posters on this forum isn’t indicative of the wider British population though is it? It’s niche.

Look at the queues for Ikea, McDonald’s, Costa etc when they reopened. Now there’s every non-essential store opening at once and you don’t think it will be just as busy or worse?

I also don’t think there will be “bargains” as most retailers are available online, it’s not like they’ve been unable to operate at all

Number3or4 · 13/06/2020 08:35

I really want to go but won’t. Instead I will wait as long as I can and then buy clothes for dc.

MynephewR · 13/06/2020 08:49

I want to go. Aimlessly browsing shops for stuff I don't need is one of my favourite pastimes Grin

Think I'll have to give it a week or so though as I don't think I will be able to stand the queues, which I imagine will be longest in the first few days of opening.

Also wondering about toilets? I don't have a very strong bladder and can't really be out for more than a couple of hours without needing the loo. If the queue to get in each shop takes 20/30 minutes then "going shopping" is pretty pointless for me unless there will be toilets open.

Ghostlyglow · 13/06/2020 08:50

No. It will be miserable.

ClashCityRocker · 13/06/2020 08:52

It will be interesting to see what the queues are like, and yes I think it will deter some people.

Although it depends on the weather - I'm quite happy to people watch for twenty minutes or so on a nice sunny day. Less so in the rain!

Pipandmum · 13/06/2020 08:54

No reason to go to any non essentialshop right now. I have been to food stores, Boots, computer shop, B&Q and a garden centre before now, so its not like it will feel like a novelty. I'm much more likely to head to the local cafe whenever it reopens.

pumpkinpie01 · 13/06/2020 08:55

I'm going to try really really hard not to , need to save money for a garden project.

lljkk · 13/06/2020 09:01

I don't need anything so no.
I don't understand other people, so I my predictions could be terrible.
My guess is that big brands will be busy and little indie shops will be empty.
Teen DS needs trainers so it would be good to sort that out, when he's willing.

Winegumaddict · 13/06/2020 09:15

Not a chance! I'm not keen on shopping at the best of times if I can't have lunch out I'm definitely not going. Luckily I'll be at work as usual anyway.

UrgentDoughnut · 13/06/2020 09:17

I'd love to go but won't. The fear of corona virus doesn't put me off - mile long queues do! I'll pop into town in a few weeks time and hopefully it'll have calmed down a bit

lljkk · 13/06/2020 11:33

My little market town was very busy this morning. Queues outside QD & Lidl, lots of cars. Surprised me...

Jeremyironsnothing · 13/06/2020 11:36

Nope

birthdaybelle · 13/06/2020 11:37

Lord no! I imagine it will be an awful experience. Only going alone or with household... assistants in visors and bloody screens everywhere. Confusing arrows... no coffee shops... why on earth would anyone?!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/06/2020 21:29

No way. I find queueing painful and tiring, as I'm disabled.,, then another queue to pay
I go only for essential food, as no chance of an online slot

chocolateequinox · 13/06/2020 21:39

No way. Even if I wasn't going to work I would no sooner be in the shops as in a viper filled pit with Nigel farage.
