Mumsnet haircut

Has anyone tried this during lockdown? I'm really starting to hate how long and untidy my hair is getting. I would love to think this works and have seen people do it on YouTube, but for some reason I think I t will turn out terrible for me.

I do my own hair this way op. I have a lot of hair and the MN one doesn't work well for me.

I dare not try to cut my own hair. Read a daily fail article on black market hair cuts and it tacitly explains where to find mobile hairdressers. If you're game and want to try it, take look on gumtree.

I also do mine like the video posted by @BlueBooby. The MN ponytail haircut doesn’t work well for me as I don’t like the layers, but doing it in pigtails works brilliantly.

I did it!
I would describe it as aggressively layered.
Basicly a mullet.
I kinda like it though.

I put mine in a pony tail under my chin and cut the ends. But my hair is wavy/loose curls so it might not be 100% straight but it doesn't show

littlegreyswan · 13/06/2020 08:43

I don't want aggressive layers so probably not the best option for me.

@BlueBooby what does the back of the hair turn out like? Is there a V shape or is it straight across?

@littlegreyswan I’ve done it like that and it comes out kind of curved at the back. Not completely straight, but not a deep V shape. I quite like it. I took just the ends off at first (my hair was waist length), but then decided to lop about 4-5 inches off and it looks absolutely fine.

lubeybooby · 13/06/2020 09:12

No no no no nooooo... do it the Brad Mondo way. Much better and avoids the weird V at the back

SparticusCaticus · 13/06/2020 09:17

I cut my hair for the first time in 2 1/2 years during lockdown, all one length similar to the video except no pony tails. I just divided into two (straight line at the back down the middle) and brushed straight down pulled to each each side of my head against my shoulders , cut in a straight line. It doesn't matter the back is slightly longer as it forms a slight shaped but neat curve. I trimmed it between my fingers to make it exact after the first couple cuts so that there were no odd longer hairs. I don't add layers.

BlueBooby · 13/06/2020 09:20

It's straight across the back op but I've had a lot of practice. I don't follow that video exactly but that's my starting point. As it's your first time, I advise taking off less than you want initially so that you have plenty of leeway for straightening up if it's needed.

Mascotte · 13/06/2020 09:23

I just take the very ends off mine and have now bought thinning shears to do it as advised by some YouTube video.

Also, cut it dry so you can see better how much you're cutting !

FavouriteFightingFrenchman · 13/06/2020 09:32

I did the ponytail one the other day and it worked really well! Nicely shaped around the face and all the straggly ends off at the back. Not going to win any hairdressing awards but I like it.
