Would appreciate some suggestions for very advanced 13 yo reader.

What sort of stuff does she usually like?

I first read Pride and Prejudice at 13, and the 'sequel' Death comes to Pemberley is good too - it's more murder mystery than romance.

Little Women? Especially if she's seen the film and enjoyed it

Siddhartha - about the Buddah's life as a young man

Fantasy but I loved The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series (YA but there is one sex scene iirc so you might want to check before hand)

Thank you Camomila. I am afraid she won't want to read the classics at the moment. She probably won't be keen on anything too girly or traditional boy/girl romance. She will be far more interested in something contemporary, gritty but age appropriate. She will be interested in LGBT, 'black lives matter', she also loves Manga (I do get the contradiction here). Siddhartha could be a good one, thanks!

Across the Barricades
Terry Pratchett's City Watch books
PD James
James Herriot
1984 and Animal Farm if she hasn't done them at school

Travel writing eg Looking for Transwonderland. Other non-fiction like Freakonomics.

Thrillers with in-depth insight into industries such as Arthur Hailey (and less in depth, Jilly Cooper)

My DS is the same age and has absolutely devoured all three of Chris Ryan's teen series over the past few months (Alpha Force, Agent 21 and Special Forces Cadets). They're quite gritty spy/secret agent stories, probably aimed more at boys but lots of strong female characters. He's also enjoyed Alex Scarrow's 'Thirteen' and 'Time Rider' series and has the 'Maze Runner' box set lined up, plus the Skulduggery Pleasant series, Wolf Children (Paul Dowswell - recommended by his school) and 'Where the World Ends'.
