What's the worst interview question you've ever encountered?

I was interviewed today by the LOVELIEST interview panel. It was a great interview and gave me just the best feeling about the company, and then out of the blue the last question was:

Please rate each of (the three of) us as an interviewer, out of 10, and give us a piece of feedback.

I was TOTALLY thrown. Please make me feel better by telling me the awful things you've been asked in an interview?!

OP posts:

"If your friends had to describe you as an animal, what would they pick"

I completely blanked. This was for an office job. Load of nonsense.

I didn't get the job, but I'm not sure I wanted it, really!

molifly14 · 11/06/2020 19:46

'If you could take three people to a dinner party, who would it be...'

It just gave me an unprofessional opinion of the organisation and I don't like dinner parties 😂

Northernsoullover · 11/06/2020 19:47

I need to know what you said OP.

rainbowlou · 11/06/2020 19:47

I was asked if I walked past a room and people were talking about me what would they be saying.
I also hate being asked where do I see myself in 5 years time. Being a millionaire after a lottery win would be nice!

Robs20 · 11/06/2020 19:50

Entry level post-graduate role and the most arrogant man interviewed me. He asked how many roundabouts are there in Milton Keynes and how many pens would fit on this table....

I tried to come up with a logical answer but it totally put me off the guy interviewing/ the organisation.

TheSparkling · 11/06/2020 19:53

I was asked who would be looking after my children while I was working...

Stingeray · 11/06/2020 19:54

What a great question. I assume you would be in some kind of leadership role if given the position and they wanted to see if you can give feedback in a positive way when put on the spot and under pressure

FizzyPink · 11/06/2020 19:56

“What’s the most difficult thing that’s happened in your life in the last year”

Definitely couldn’t think of an interview appropriate answer Blush

pinkmagic1 · 11/06/2020 19:56

If you where a vegetable, what vegetable would you be and why? This was for a receptionist position.

katmarie · 11/06/2020 19:59

What three words would your best friend use to describe you? That stumped me a bit.

Andthenthenewone · 11/06/2020 19:59

Was asked what I enjoyed about my previous job. I shared what I enjoyed. And they asked, ‘so why are you joking here? What is the agenda?’. I got the job but never got over that question. Grin

WanderingMilly · 11/06/2020 20:01

And.....?
That was the question. Totally floored me!!

EastMidsMumOf1 · 11/06/2020 20:02

After talking about the reason for a employment gap on my CV being because of PTSD, I was asked what caused it. Totally irrelevant and inappropriate IMO.
I actually rejected the job offer because of it too.

terriblyangryattimes · 11/06/2020 20:04

"Is a jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit?"

JoeExoticsTiger · 11/06/2020 20:14

If you were a biscuit what biscuit would you be? 🤷‍♀️

DogInATent · 11/06/2020 20:18

"Is a jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit?"
Relevant if the position was in accounting or related to tax.

Dicotyledon · 11/06/2020 20:22

Why have you had to talk to your daughter’s school? I‘m pretty sure I got the job because the response revealed a part of my life they should never have asked about and they knew a lawsuit was possible.

Babyroobs · 11/06/2020 20:26

I got asked "what is people's biggest misconception about you ".

OnceUponACat · 11/06/2020 20:27

If you were an appliance what would you be?

Confused
mnahmnah · 11/06/2020 20:28

‘What’s the most inspirational book you read as part of your degree?’

I could hardly say ‘I didn’t read the whole of any books in my degree, just the bits I needed’ Grin

I managed to remember one that my lecturer spoke about that sounded really unique and inspirational. I never read any of it but I doubt they had either!

KitBumbleB · 11/06/2020 20:31

@terriblyangryattimes

"Is a jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit?"
I would respect whatever it chose to identify as Wink
Fromage · 11/06/2020 20:36

Do you have children?
How will you get here on time when you have to do the school run?

"Under British law, dads are also allowed to do the school run."

The employment agency booked me for a second interview. I just didn't show up.

transformandriseup · 11/06/2020 20:43

The weirdest - "What would you do if aliens landed?"

The worst (only a few years ago)- "Are you planning on having children soon as we wouldn't want that.

PrawnSacrifice · 11/06/2020 21:01

"If you were a brick in the wall, what brick would you be?"

Answer - "I see myself more as the architect"

Booksandwine80 · 11/06/2020 21:05

I was asked to describe myself, happened to mention my mum bringing me up on her own. Interviewer: “So how do you think coming from a broken home has affected you?”Shock
