Baby bird found in garden. Help!

Phoned local wildlife rescue place, but they don't know if they can come out this evening, and we don't have a car to get to them. Any idea about what we can do for the little thing?

Out it back outside and leave nature to take its course.

Put it on a wall if you can in a box where it can get out once recovered but cats can't get in

You need to leave it where you found it. It's mother may be nearby.

HappyHammy · 11/06/2020 17:51

Gosh it looks huge. What sort of bird is it. Have you seen the adults or a nest.

runningon · 11/06/2020 17:51

Put in back as soon as possible!
It's mother will be looking for it....hopefully she hasn't moved on yet.
You can't raise a baby chick, it will die.

PrincessFiorimonde · 11/06/2020 17:55

I found it in the courtyard, with no nest/tree/bush in sight.

Put it back where you found it and with luck its parents will find it. The only other option is to ask the wildlife rescue whether you should feed it / give it water — from a dropper and then get it to them asap.

PrincessFiorimonde · 11/06/2020 17:57

I mean, there are trees at the bottom of the garden, but nowhere near the courtyard where I found the bird.

I'm concerned about putting it back outside because there are a couple of neighbouring cats. And foxes.

I'd ph the rescue centre again and ask their advice on what to feed it, op.

HappyHammy · 11/06/2020 18:04

Whereabouts are you. There might be smaller rescues that can help. Does it look injured at all. I have taken birds in if they look abandoned or lost. Can you put it in a warm box with a towel and give it some water.

Magstermay · 11/06/2020 18:04

Did the wildlife place say what type of bird it is?

Laundrywoman · 11/06/2020 18:05

Dig up some worms for it.

PrincessFiorimonde · 11/06/2020 18:13

OK, so websites suggest not to feed or water it. Rescue centre guy didn't suggest anything, beyond asking if it was opening its beak as if requiring food (it isn't). I don't know what sort of bird it is - can't find it in a quick Google - but it's downy rather than properly feathered.

I've put it back outside, in a box, in case its parents are looking for it. I'll keep an eye out for cats and foxes.

If there's no vegetation coverage and it can't fly yet, op it would be safer inside until the rescue place can collect it.
It's a sitting duck out in the open, poor thing.

PrincessFiorimonde · 11/06/2020 18:39

Wildlife rescue guy came and he's taken it away. It's a gull, just a few days old, probably fallen out of a nest on the roof/ledge of balcony of flat above us.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.
