And I’d like to teach my children, so can anyone direct us to any good websites as tbh I don’t really know much about it, I’m here ready to learn about it, but need a few pointers of where to start searching such as a few decent websites etc

Amazing Grace film tells the story of abolitionist William Wilberforce. Rated PG

Hidden Figures covers racism in NASA and is a good watch. Also PG

Thank you sprouts, I will look at all them, I’ve also managed to google a few things and thought maybe we can check out the Liverpool museum, perhaps they might even have some stuff on you tube

The Liverpool Museums exhibition is very good at capturing the horror of the conditions endured on the slave ships. There's some short videos and information on the website but the whole exhibition (and museum) is also well worth a visit.

Thanks I will check that out
We watched something on bbc about how they used to send criminals to Austrialia and some died on the boat, and some made a great life in oz and they used actors and that was good as it bought it to life for the kids even my 6 year old understood it

@Lardlizard

There is an excellent BBC series being rerun at the moment called Black and British A Forgotton History. Its presented by David Olusoga
(who does a House Through Time). There is a companion book.

Whilst the slavery issue is obviously very important I think its helpful to look at the wider history of Black peoples in the UK. I'm white but my son is dual heritage so its important to recognise this long history.

I really like David Olusoga - very different to most of the TV historians, and being black brings a very different perspective. Its worth googling him, he writes for the Observer and usually covers these issues.

Thank you ted, I’ll have a look for that too
