.. .was posting stuff about 'defend Britain' and 'even the football hooligans are rallying'...when the rest of your smallish selection of friends are #BLM #Bristolproud #leftwingladies or relatives or not publicly political?
Just a guy I worked with briefly a few years ago and had a few beers with.

Yes - there's no point still being friends on SM really. Unless you want to keep tabs on what his sort are up to next?

Smallsteps88 · 10/06/2020 23:43
Confused

Do you want to defriend him? If so- do. Regardless of what anyone else would do.

It’s not really a big decision. He won’t even notice.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/06/2020 23:44

Do you support his stance?
Do you want to take the time to debate him?
Is he important to you?

If the answer to the above is "No", then unfriend him.

Destroyedpeople · 10/06/2020 23:47

No no and no...ok yes thank you people ..off he goes.Grin

TinyPigeon · 10/06/2020 23:54

Maybe you should call him out first?

TinyPigeon · 10/06/2020 23:55

Like it's not because he doesn't fit with your other friends? It's because he's a racist, and you're hopefully not a racist?

People's friends lists usually reflect the person though don't they...so no I am not a secret fascist. Grin

No one is entitled to your time, energy and engagement OP. Fuckitybye and move on.

Social media allows for creating your own bubble of people who agree with you. I think it's a strange world when people feel they can't have friends with other opinions.

OnABeachSomewhere · 11/06/2020 00:05

That's just a general comment though OP. It's totally up to you who you want to have as a SM 'friend'.

Destroyedpeople · 11/06/2020 00:08

Well yes you are right and that is what I thought in the first place tbh @OnABeachSomewhere....not all my friends agree with me politically at all..but then they don't post overtly aggressive stuff either...

OP posts:
OnABeachSomewhere · 11/06/2020 00:23

Yep, definitely best to de-friend the overtly aggressive! Life's too short...

I agree with you as a general point but for me I don't think it's the same when this is the sort of example we're talking about.

It's more than just a differing opinion.

There are certain big core values and morals that if the person showed themselves to be on the wrong side of then I would cut them out I wouldn't be able to help it because I couldn't live with myself if I condoned having those people in my life in any way, Racists, sex offender perpetrators/apologists as just a couple of examples of the type of thing I mean.

Vodkacranberryplease · 11/06/2020 01:50

Defriend. I've done it and it's good. Or relentlessly take the piss out of him. That works too.

Aclh13 · 11/06/2020 02:16

Sorry but can you clarify which friends you are unfriending and why because I only see reason to unfriend one group

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 11/06/2020 02:27

even the football hooligans are rallying

Yes, I'd usually just hide and unfollow people saying stuff like this (assuming they were close,if not I'd quietly delete)
