Colouring Pencils

I've got one of those colourings books with all sorts of patterns in that I've found when clearing out a drawer which I want to give a try in a bid to reduce screen time whilst indoors so much.

Does anybody have any colouring pencil recommendations? Ideally not too expensive but ones that are good enough to actually leave some colour on the page. The ones I have now are terrible - you can barely see where I've coloured in!

There are crayola ones which are good and not too expensive, and you can often get them in supermarkets.

Does it have to be pencils? If it's lots of detail, the Staedtler fine liners are amazing pens for colouring in!

Staedtler or Derwent they’ve got more pigment. The ones you’re using are probably cheap pencils for kiddies scribbling.

Ohhh, thank you! I've just found some Staedtler ones that looked good on eBay so I've ordered those.

They were definitely kid's ones I was using 😁😁😁

Crayola are good at the cheap and cheerful, accessible end of the market.
Generally the more you pay, the better they are.

DS has triangular stadtlers and they mark easily. Makes a big difference with his dyspraxia.

Staedtler are the best inexpensive pencils I’ve tried - excellent quality

But if you find you enjoy and can justify a bit lot more, have a look at the polychromos ones. Daft expensive, but you can do lots of shading sand blending etc. so really notice the difference. DD has even taken to nicking mine for schoolwork as they give a smoother finish.

Only worth it if it's something you want to pursue though - personally I love a bit of colouring so well worth the money.

I use kids ones for my bible colouring and journaling. I find colouring over what I've done means there's more colour. They obviously don't last as long though I've had some good results.

I've some staedtler watercolour pencils which despite the person who sold them to me saying they were "utter shit" they've been fine for what I wanted to do - they were keen to sell me ones several times the price.

For cheap-ish but nice you can get online Arteza pencils are good quality. Their woodless watercolor pencils are lovely too if you want something even more versatile.

I use Faber Castell polychromos because I have a serious art supply addiction...

I like the Fabre Castell ones in the lovely tin!

Alittleodd me too! I'm no artist, but they're lively to use. If slightly pricey...

I second gel pens. I remember the scented ones when I was in primary school years ago I loved them Grin

Caran D'Ache are my favourites. Come in a nice tin and wide range of colours

I have a set of prismacolours too which are nice and better for sharp detail but still prefer the polychromos. I got the 72 set on a black Friday deal a while back and they are much beloved - my son also steals them for school work.

I have one, treasured Luminance pencil (a white one) and I dream of the day I have enough money to waste on a full set!
