Does anyone else need a lot of sleep?

I am someone who needs a lot of sleep. Today I am feeling exhausted and nauseous with a headache due to sleep deprivation because I had... wait for it.... 7 hours of sleep last night.

With the lockdown I have been letting myself wake naturally and I sleep around 10 hours each night and very rarely up to 12 hours.

I have a sleep tracking app and my sleep is always good quality (usually 90-100%), I never wake in the middle of the night and I fall asleep within 10 minutes of my head hitting the pillow.

Is anyone else like this?

Yes, I always have. I do have RA and fatigue is part of that but I can't function without at least 8 hours of sleep. Dh thought I was exaggerating until one day when I cried because I couldn't remember how to make the shower work, dropped the milk, broke a glass etc. I can't even speak properly if I have less than 6, it is like being drunk.

Probably a good job really that I couldn't have children as I doubt I could have coped

Yes, I always have. I do best on 10 hours a night. I was a dream baby apparently as I slept constantly!

Me too. Need 10 hours often more then a nap late afternoon. I have arthritis and just getting through the day leaves me feeling exhausted. It's been difficult to accept after always being very active. Then again I remember going full on for a few months staying up late, doing loads of active stuff then crashing with exhaustion for a week, like burnout.

I sleep between 6 - 8 hours a night, i regularly have to nap in the afternoon, anything from 1 - 3 hours. I regularly feel 'spaced out'
I can pretty much sleep anywhere, anytime.
Having DS off school has been a guilt inducing nightmare. Often I nap in the afternoon before picking him up from school. Ive been known to leave him babysat with tele whilst I sleep in the afternoon, otherwise i will be no good for anything.
I'm yawning now.

Its not something I love, and I wish i didn't always feel so bloody knackered.

A few years ago on a cruise my mum got very frustrated when it would get to early afternoon and I'd need a sleep, ditto when I met my now DP, I used to sneak off for a nap when he went out, then pretend I was cleaning or doing something upstairs when he returned... i occasionally still do as otherwise hes thinks I'm "a lazy cow"

I really like my sleep. At the moment I'm not getting enough of it, probably about 6-8 hours a night. I'm up and working from 7am, then doing things with dd in the afternoon/evening, and she's not going to bed til about midnight. It's better in terms of me being able to work that she sleeps in the morning till about 9/9:30, as I've had a good couple of hours of solid work before I need to help her get set up for home learning. But the lack of sleep is killing me. Dd and dh look at me like I'm mad when I'm falling asleep on the sofa, or when putting dd to bed, but I just can't function properly on this little sleep.

Dd is 10 by the way, shes not some tiny toddler, so she could realistically put herself to bed, but she won't, because she likes the bedtime routine of stories and chatting before she goes to sleep. And she likes it too be me because dh "doesn't do it right".

Yep, me too. I do not function well without my sleep and regularly play catch up at the weekend by sleeping all of the afternoon.

Turbotastic · 10/06/2020 19:35

I'm usually fine on about 8hrs but 9 seems to be perfect for me and after that amount I feel refreshed and energetic.

Less than 6 and I really suffer, bf regularly gets 5hrs or less and I don't know how he functions!

Dk20 · 10/06/2020 19:46

Yes, I am the same. I try to get 9 hours a night. If I have less than 9 hours I can definitely feel the difference the next day. If I only got 7 hours, I would have a headache and fogginess like you would with a hangover, and also get horrible (quite strong) pains in my legs from the tiredness.
