Does anyone live next door to a hot tub?

We live in a row of terraced houses with small gardens. I vaguely know our soon-to-be new neighbours and they’ve just put a picture of their new hot tub on Facebook. Unless they’re planning on moving the decking in their garden it’ll be around 6ft away from my back door. How bad are they?

I've had two neighbours with hot tubs and I've barely even noticed. I didn't know neighbours were affected by them?

Bluntness100 · 10/06/2020 06:24

What do you mean how bad are they? You didn’t even know it was there until she posted a picture, doesn’t that answer the question?

Phillipa12 · 10/06/2020 06:24

My neighbours have one next to my fence and patio, really cant say ive noticed either.

Bluntness100 they haven’t moved in yet hence me writing ‘soon to be’ new neighbours.

These replies are promising. The only thing I know about them is from a relative and a friends whose neighbours had them and they said the constant low-hum they emitted stopped them sitting outside.

Yeah, our neighbours have one & it isn’t a problem. I mean sometimes they sit out late in it, but that would be the same without the tub.
What is it you’re worried about?

Sameold2020 · 10/06/2020 06:28

This would be my worst nightmare so I'm glad to hear a few posters say it's not that bad.

My fear is the hot tub parties with music and chat until the early hours.

Brandaris · 10/06/2020 06:30

It seems to depend on the setting. I normally don’t notice our neighbours even have it on, but sometimes they set it to a really loud setting which is like having a motorway next door.

Wifeofbikerviking · 10/06/2020 06:44

Dont worry about it until it happens. I've been next door before and not bothered by it at all. Not noisy or anything. Costs a bit to run so some people only run it a few months anyway

Silvercatowner · 10/06/2020 06:53

It's the smell I object to. I love my garden and want it to smell of flowers, not chlorine.

Bluntness100 · 10/06/2020 06:54

Op I’m not sure if you understand how your statement is illogical. Clearly if the noise was so intrusive it stopped neighbours sitting outside no one would have one, because it would also stop you using your garden.

peonypower · 10/06/2020 06:58

I have a hot tub and I am very quiet
I never put the bubbles on (too noisy) and just sit in it to drink coffee in the mornings or a glass of wine in the evening, with a book

I am very boring. Maybe they are like me.

Handsnotwands · 10/06/2020 07:09

Our neighbours does rumble. You sort of don’t notice until they switch it off, at which point you think ahhh that’s nice. Then it starts again and grrrr but quickly becomes like white noise I suppose

Stackers382 · 10/06/2020 07:09

Bluntness100 my question isn’t illogical at all. Friends have said they’re very noisy-I’m asking if anyone else has experienced the same. Maybe when you’re the one who’s paid for it and getting the ‘enjoyment’ from it the noise is worth the payoff. If you’re just having to listen to it without getting actually relax in it then I can understand it become an irritant. Nothing illogical about that.

Reassuring to hear they’re not that bad!

I think it depends if it's a inflatable type or solid structure. The (newer) solid structure ones are very well insulated to prevent heat loss and also reduces the noise of pumps running etc . Inflatable types that's all out in the open so yes they can be noisy. Chlorine smell when I open the lid I get a waft but then nothing.

We have a newer type fixed structure but a largish garden so it's several metres away from any fences. I don't use the jets very often but never after 9 at night. I am like previous poster like a quiet wine or to look at the sky.
