Buses that go under the sea
Haberdashery shops
The moon is so friendly
Rainbow too
And I love scarf lady and bag.
How do I get there? Grin

Where are her parents?

UnderTheBus · 10/06/2020 02:24

I do have one niggle, they "adopt" a manatee. My (adopted) DCs were confused by this
But adopting an animal is a real thing. Like you can adopt a rhino at the zoo. "Sponsor" would be a more accurate word.

We have been watching a lot of Sarah and Duck, I find it relaxing and cute, and I'm not usually one for weirdness in cartoons.

Nordicwannabe · 10/06/2020 03:42

I love the sound effects and music in it. Really beautiful and unusual!

BabloHoney · 10/06/2020 04:05

Love Sarah and Duck, happily watch it when the kids aren’t in the room. It’s so gentle and imaginative. And there’s magic puffs you can fill your pillow with, and Christmas decorations grow Smile

AngelaScandal · 10/06/2020 05:03

All I hear in my head is QUACK.

drspouse · 10/06/2020 05:09

They don't come and live in your house!
It's quite rare for this to be mentioned on TV and the BBC should try to be accurate, I think.

lottiegarbanzo · 10/06/2020 09:03

Where are her parents?

The narrator is her dad. He's referred to 'our house'. He goes everywhere with her.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 10/06/2020 09:13

My husband walks round saying
Sarah and duck
What the fuck

We are grandparents- children are not around during these mutterings

Quack

mogloveseggs · 10/06/2020 09:16

There is much laughter when we get the lady quack bang on! Grin

I adore Sarah and Duck. I've been known to say hello like the shallots

mogloveseggs · 10/06/2020 09:16

Lady? Last!

My five year old asked if we can play Twang Ball.. sounds like a great idea to me Smile

^adopting an animal is a real thing.

Buses don't go underwater either. Neither does the moon float down from the sky and chat to you in your garden. Bugs do not play tiny musical instruments and clouds are not made in a tower.

I can't help feeling that using S&D as a guide to the reality of life, any part of life, would be a mistake.

drspouse · 10/06/2020 11:26

It's still true, however, that my children were confused by adopting a sea cow while they are NOT confused by buses going underwater.

lottiegarbanzo · 10/06/2020 11:28

Perhaps different things are going to confuse different people. Animals have a pseudo-human status in S&D that they do not in real life.

SnuggyBuggy · 10/06/2020 11:28

That sentient bread freaked me out, I was really stressed that Duck would eat it alive

MrsWooster · 10/06/2020 11:30

Sarah and Duck world is better than this world.

Sadly true

Nordicwannabe · 10/06/2020 11:35

I love the episode where the bugs play jazz, and Sarah goes through the hedge to a jazz festival with glowing lights. Simply magical.

EllieQ · 10/06/2020 11:36

It is very soothing. DD often wants to play Sarah & Duck, and I always have to be Duck. I spend a lot of time saying Quack. We also made lemon water once, but she didn’t like the taste!

balloonsintrees · 10/06/2020 11:39

Only if I can cuddle Roger Allam whilst there

balloonsintrees · 10/06/2020 11:41

We played twang ball in one of my Alevel lessons....Blush
In my defence we had been doing a lesson on Replica theory and we were all a bit stir crazy...yes I had to show them the episode first.

drspouse · 10/06/2020 11:48

Animals have a pseudo-human status in S&D that they do not in real life.
It is also confusing for them when zoos etc. say you can "adopt" an animal but the number of times we watch any given Sarah & Duck episode in a year is far greater than the number of times we go to the zoo.

I'm not quite sure why people defend the use of the phrase "adopt an animal" when people whose children are adopted say it's problematic?

We also made lemon water once, but she didn’t like the taste!
My DM puts lemon in her water and my DCs aged about 3 and 5 wanted lemon in their water all the time for a while, like a tiny pair of long term hotel residents demanding better service.

lottiegarbanzo · 10/06/2020 12:47

Sounds like the 'adoption vs sponsoring' argument is one to take up with real life zoos and conservation charities.

In S&D world, because (some) animals have a pseudo-human status, the idea that adopting an animal would result in it coming to live with you - like Duck himself - makes sense.

What does take a bit of working out is which animals (and baked goods) have what status.

lottiegarbanzo · 10/06/2020 12:49

We've made lemon water too, not just a squeeze but full-on citron presse, initially without sugar. DC was so determined to like it that it was drunk happily!
