Persistent verrucas. Can I pay someone to kill them?!

We have had the odd verruca over the years. We always get rid of them with cider vinegar, really effective.

My son has had several for nearly 3 years. They are driving me INSANE.
Nothing is working. We have spent months a time using particular methods. The salicylic acid, freezing them, gaffer tape, cider vinegar.

We have tried each method for months at a time and they just WONT go.

I've spent a couple of hundred (the free method and some salicylic acid methods are pricey!) and still the bastards live.

Now hes just growing more and keeps reinfecting the rest of the family (ours all get treated fine) presumably in the shower.

We need to get rid of them and I don't know how.

Can I go private?!

We paid £360 for 8 microwave treatments - by treatment 6 they all fell out and we had 2 follow ups just to make sure they were properly gone. It wasn't very sore and lasted 15 minutes each treatment - they trimmed the skin down on the verrucas and zapped them.

Yes. You can pay a private dermatologist who has liquid nitrogen.

My adult dd used the proper plasters successfully..
As a dc I picked mine out with a compass.
Do not try this at home..

@GherkinsOnToast do you do it? Or does someone do that for you?

What are 'proper plasters'?
We have used the plasters with acid if that's what you mean?

Yes a podiatrist will do it for you. The one I saw was very good and tried different things before burning it off. It didn’t hurt but was very cold briefly. He said he main treats old people and verrucas.

BambooWhoosh · 09/06/2020 12:20

Yes, DC had them for years. We tried topical treatments and then paid privately for freezing treatment - neither worked. We then went for a course of microwave treatments which finally did the trick.

It was this one (there is a clinic finder on the website)
treatwithswift.com/global/for-patients.html

Good luck.

Thanks. I'm glad it's possible because I've had enough

DD had two close together on her foot which she couldn’t get rid of for years. She got them in around Yr10 and finally got rid of them last year when she was 22!

We tried everything but what finally worked was a white paint stuff (salactol?)from the GP. It took a while to work and she almost give up but they did go and haven’t come back. You could probably get a telephone consultation with your surgery and they’d give you a prescription. You can also get it on Amazon but I’m not sure if it’s be the same strength.

My veruccas lasted for 14 years. Used bazooka or whatever it's called, kept my socks on (changing them frequently obviously) and applied as needed. After a few weeks I suddenly realised they'd gone. Hadn't even noticed. It was like they'd suddenly just upped and left overnight. Not had them since.
Just need to deal with my cracked heels now...

Twooter · 09/06/2020 12:26

We used a podiatrist - took two treatments and then they were gone.

Isthisfinallyit · 09/06/2020 12:33

I had one that lasted 8 years. The GP sent me yo the hospital for some kind of special acid treatment, no idea what it was called. They put the acid on the verucca, taped it with plastic and I wasn't allowed to shower or change it for 3 full days. They repeated it every few weeks and after a few months it was gone.

eeehbyegum · 09/06/2020 12:34

I’ve found you need to file very gently before you treat. It helps the medication get in and break down the verruca. File and treat daily, should he gone in a month

GherkinsOnToast · 09/06/2020 12:36

@HowFurloughCanYouGo it was done at the podiatrist.

undercoveraessedai · 09/06/2020 12:39

I had hideous persistent veruccas all through my teens, they were miserable and nothing worked to get rid of them - and then when I was about 22 they vanished more or less overnight. Not had one since although I'm a frequent swimmer Hmm

Haggisfish · 09/06/2020 12:40

Dh got them needled which got rid of them for good in one treatment. Done privately by podiatrist.

HowFurloughCanYouGo · 09/06/2020 12:58

I’ve found you need to file very gently before you treat.

We haven't filed gently. We have filed brutally. We have snipped, filed, pulled, picked. We have tried everything.

It's way beyond 'gentle filing' unfortunately.

Have you tried Bazuka?

HoldMyLobster · 09/06/2020 14:24

I don't know if this helps as we're in the US, but DD's doctor used a mixture of freezing and canthardin which she applied in the doctor's office, and Imiquimod which we applied at home, to get rid of very persistent verrucaes. We also did a fair amount of scraping away the dead skin with a razor blade before applying anything, as did the doc.

We'd tried everything else, as it sounds like you have. As it's MN you will find that everyone will suggest all the things you've already tried though :-)

newtb · 09/06/2020 15:29

Last time I had them, I went to a chiropodist and as well as standard treatment she used acupuncture on them.

They went and never came back

TrickyD · 09/06/2020 16:12

Get a small piece of meat, bury it in the garden, walk round it backwards three times chanting ‘as you rot get rid of my wart’.

My mum’s recommendation but no good for me as I am a vegetarian.

After lots of goes with liquid nitrogen when the NHS still offered it, and our surgery declared my wart to be the most long lasting they had known, some stuff called Duofilm, applied and covered with duct tape worked satisfyingly quickly.
