I can't sleep as I'm really worrying about this

I was looking through my Amazon orders last night and I noticed that some plastic baby links that I bought for my baby (now 2!) a couple of years ago were from a third party chinese seller. I had no idea at the time because I think they were delivered by prime. When I looked at the seller though it's a long address and in China. I'm panicking that the links that my baby used to suck on will be full of horrible toxins. I actually feel sick that ive been so stupid- no regulations would have been met by this seller. We actually still had them and we were hiding them around the garden the other day.

I'd be so grateful I'd someone could talk to me about this!!

I'm sure it's fine and if they were causing your child harm you would have noticed and sought the appropriate medical advice.

Everyone is very stressed at the moment so maybe you're projecting your anxiety onto this small thing. Be kind to yourself.

Thanks for your replies. I'll definitely be throwing them away!! I just feel sick at the thought of him sucking away at chemicals that are actually banned! The description said BPA free but I can guarantee that that was just a copy and paste and they actually weren't. I think effects are long term sadly. I'm such an idiot!!

Don’t throw them out, look online and see if you can find a lab that will test them!

HannaYeah · 09/06/2020 02:41

www.home-health-chemistry.com/Bisphenol-A-Detection.html

You can buy what you need to test at home.

HannaYeah · 09/06/2020 02:43

That’s a US site but am sure you can search online and find similar.

Most adults grew up with all kind of nasty things - lead in paint on cots, dodgy plastics etc. I see why you are worried, I would be too, but your baby will be fine.

About 80% of the world's toys are made in China. I would personally throw the rings out but you are probably worrying for nothing. I am not sure about testing them because what would do if they did have BPA? Scientists are divided about whether BPA is actually harmful in small doses.

BlueSkyPlease · 09/06/2020 03:22

Yes there is absolutely no point in me testing. Itll be some small time company in china that sent them through Amazon fulfillment. They would be impossible to track down. I just looked at one and it had an imprint on it Kids ll uk Ltd and I'm SURE they were in a bright starts packet. So it could be potentially some one selling that stock themselves or it's been recreated as a knock off. Who knows! I'm feeling a bit more relaxed now and starting to panic about the fact that I'm going to be soooooo tired tomorrow

I agree that even if they have bpas its unlikely to cause any massive harm. I’d like to know just to have the info so I’d test if it’s possible to do so inexpensively.

HannaYeah · 09/06/2020 03:25

Oh good, glad you feel better. Scratch the testing idea then.
